That is exactly what I said this evening at about 8:05 PT when the couch I was on starting moving from side to side, and then that escalated into the whole house rolling steadily from side to side for about 30 seconds or so. It took a while for the shaking to dissipate completely, but everything was fine. Nothing broken, nothing fell off walls, no damage. It was a 5.6, and that's the strongest earthquake I've been in since the '89 Loma Prieta quake. I've been in lots of little ones, but this was different. I got so dizzy during all the moving around that if I'd had to get up and try to dive under a table, I might have fallen over. Everything is cool now, but it was pretty scary, even for me, a native Californian who is used to the earth moving every so often. I just don't like when the whole house starts shaking its thang and my brain starts to majorly swim. Yeah.
Oh, and the "breaking news updates" that interrupted Bones freaking twice? Had nothing edifying to say at all beyond "5.6 quake, South Bay, no injuries, no damage, the end," yet they took three times as long to get all their inane babble out. Grrrrr.
Besides all that, a very happy birthday to
cantinera, a truly kickass woman. I hope she has had a great day. :D
