Day 4

Oct 19, 2009 13:23

After lighting starryshadows' house on fire, the villagers returned to their homes for the evening.

Having to walk just a little bit further than everyone else, chelleann77 took longer to reach her rented cottage, she being a tourist and visitor to Innsmouth. Unlocking her door, she stepped inside and was immediately struck from behind, something blunt and heavy hitting her just above the left ear, knocking her unconscious.

When she came to, she found that she was tied down in the middle of circle drawn in chalk, mind-wrenching symbols ringing the circle. Candles glowed all over her living room and a dark robed figure moved toward her.

"Great and Powerful One!" the robed figure cried. "Tonight I join you! Your powers be praised! Please take my bloody death as a sacrifice to bring you closer to return and start the vigilante's mind down the dark path to darker thoughts. The blood he has shed will never leave his dreams...

"For you, I sacrifice chelleann77. Her good protecting soul is the brightest sheep in this herd. Feast well, for I cannot guide your thoughts into action any more!"

chelleann77's screams of terror were abruptly short.

An hour later theweaselking returned to his cottage having spent all night in the soaking rain looking for stride. Grumpy, he tucked his baseball bat underneath his arm and unlocked the door. As it swung open, he caught sight of the flicker of candelight in the glass and immediately went still. He didn't own any candles...

Hefting his bat of retribution, theweaselking stepped lightly into the room. Every window was covered in black paper and the furniture of his living room had been pushed against the walls. In a circle painted in blood, candles were lit and glowed a sickening green, throwing horrific and dancing shadows on the walls. In the center of the room, stride, clothed in robes, stood holding a glass of wine.

"I believe you were looking for me?" she said.

Without pause, theweaselking leaped forward and swung with all of his might. The evil cultist didn't try to duck or block the blow, rather she seemed to almost lean into it, eager. The crack of the bat against her skull was as loud as a gunshot and, perhaps he imagined it, but the candles seemed to flare just a little brighter for a moment.

While he didn't want to, he gingerly stepped into the circle to make sure that stride was dead. Not breathing, her eyes blank and lifeless, her expression was one of contentment, pleasure, and sent a shudder through the hardened Vigilante.

The next morning the town gathered once more and theweaselking brought, in a body bag, the limp corpse of stride still in her robes. The Mayor declared the day a holiday and Mrs. Crabtree opened up her Bed, Breakfast, and Aquarium for the celebration.

"Well," reyl said as he toasted urban_wolfie, "I'm glad that's over."

"Yes..." the Doctor said as he watched reyl take a long pull from his celebratory lemonade.

It would be an hour later when people would finally notice that reyl was dead, lemon-scented foam leaking from his mouth...

---chelleann77 the BODYGUARD is dead! stride the CULTIST is dead! reyl the VILLAGER is dead!---
