Ah! I do believe I have figured out Sasuke's plan in Naruto.
Sasuke's going to [try and] pull an Itachi. He's doing his best to protect Naruto from Madara and the Akatsuki, and at the same time set things up so that Naruto becomes stronger thanks to his hatred of Sasuke and then, one day, kills him so that Sasuke can die at the hands of his beloved best friend. The only problems are that a) Naruto isn't falling for the whole hatred thing and b) Sasuke is really bad at doing things right. Poor guy, but I have a feeling it will all work out in the end. ^-^
So,
that shot where Sasuke's staring at Naruto with his blurry vision until Madara whisks him away - doujin or what? The fangirls called the Itachi plot pretty accurately, so the fact that I'm reading doujin plots into the latest arc doesn't seem too far out there at all. Really, Naruto's whole speech could have been taken word for word from some of them if you just threw in a "...because I love you" at the end.
I am so looking forward to the inevitable callback to that waterfall arc in the beginning, as Sasuke throws himself into the line of fire to protect Naruto from the poison needles or whatever projectile is involved. Considering the slash-tastic confession we got last time, his new one, in which he'll have to explain that he really loved Naruto all along (since as I said above, Sasuke could never pull off Itachi's full plan, and that includes the dying without saying anything part - Madara really ruined that for Itachi, didn't he?), should be just about out-and-out BL. And then Sakura, who has sadly
given up completely on ever being able to compete with the boys, can use her souped-up white mage powers to heal Sasuke and we'll get an adorable hospital visit or two out of it. Ten to one Naruto tries to make those apple rabbits, screws it up, Sasuke makes fun of him but affectionately (and unconsciously) uses either "dobe" or "usuratonkachi" to do it, Naruto tears up, and Sasuke eats the apple anyway.
...It may be a shame that I'm out of the fanfic scene these days.
