Remember the Branch Davidians? David Koresh, Waco, US diplomacy at its finest? According to their most recent prophecy The End Of The World As We Know It will be in March 2012:

"A Comet shall hit the land of the USA on the actual day the Biblical time prophecies predict its day of wrath. When the Comet impacts the land at over 25,000 miles per hour, it creates a massive earthquake. This massive earthquake causes an immense caldera to explode in Yellowstone National Park creating an enormous volcanic eruption. Yellowstone National Park has the largest and most active volcano in the world. This volcano is as least 40 miles in diameter. On the day the Comet hit's the land, this huge volcano's crater shall open with tremendous explosive power. Dust, smoke and hot ash shall spew into the air from the immense orifice, darkening the sun, moon, and stars over the USA. With no sunlight, all agriculture shall quickly perish. Famine shall be prevalent in the land. From the day the Comet hits, the land shall be showered with hailstones of ice and coals of fire, many weighing over 70 pounds. These meteors are the tail, which follow the Comet to the land. Anarchy shall immediately breakout in the land from the time the great earthquake is fulfilled. After five months of initial plagues, lava shall erupt from the immense crater, as it flows throughout the world."

So I wonder - has anyone ever done a study on the ideal length of time between founding a Doomsday religion and the date you set? There must be a very delicate balance there: too far away and people will think they'll get to repenting and worshiping the ground you walk on closer to the actual time. Too close and you don't really get to enjoy your Son of God/demi-god/spiritual master role for very long.

It's tough being a religious leader...
