I made it to Susanville

I arrived to Susanville Weds afternoon only knowing that I had a motel reservation for a couple of nights until I found a more permanent home. I did some research and found that a hotel called the St. Francis offered furnished rooms for rent. I decided to check it out as soon as I got to town and found it overrun with families living in dungeon-like living quarters, luckily they wanted a six month lease and I did not want to commit to something for that long. One of the residents mentioned that Hotel Mt. Lassen recently opened and that they are renting room weekly and monthly. Feeling kinda desperate, I had to the hotel and was pleasantly surprised in that it looked like a modern hotel, with a real reception, and restaurant attached. Turns out the building used to be an assisted living residence, and it recently got renovated to be a hotel.

Normally the hotel doesn't offer furnished extended stay rooms, but a previous employee who lived in the hotel still had his furniture in a room, so I was offered to rent that room at the unfurnished rental price. I got a tour of the room, and it was pretty basic, but it did have a fridge, micro, and tv. I told the manager that I would let her know by the next day if I wanted the room.

I also managed to get a call from a guy who saw my room wanted post on craigslist. He said he lives on the outskirts of town about 30 mins away, and that his wife died a few months ago, so he is alone in the house, and wants to find someone to rent a room and look after his house when he travels for work. I was almost considering checking out the place, until he mentioned that he would be free to show me the place after he butchered some pigs in the morning. That sealed the deal that I wouldn't be interested. Living outside of town, alone with a man, who regularly butchers pigs, is probably not a good move.

Needless to say, I moved into Mt. Lassen Hotel instead. Living in a hotel reminds me of one of my favorite children books-Eloise. Its kinda cool, cus I am in uptown Susanville, near the old movie theater. The restaurant is an English Pub, which has live music on weekends. So it looks like I am living in the entertainment center of town-which really isnt saying much. However, there is a jogging/biking trail a block away and a local gym another block away.

I have sorta mixed feelings about living here. There isnt much of a social life, and since I am a SW I have to be careful on who I talk to and befriend-since everyone knows everyone.

Either way it is going to be a great life-lesson, and who knows,,, maybe I will learn to embrace country-living hehe.
