It was the sound of hammering that woke him. He stretched out, his toes curling, and let the warmth of the morning sun seep in. It was too early to be up on a day off, but the noise didn't seem to be stopping any time soon and Jared was nowhere to be seen.

Jensen took an unhurried shower, dried and dressed in jeans and t-shirt, and made his way downstairs. The stairs creaked under his feet, but there was nobody in the house to hear. All the noise was coming from the front porch. The front door was wide open, letting the warm summer breeze through the house, and the banging sound was now accompanied by rock music and the occasional curse. Jensen watched, amused, as Matty shook his head at Jared's clumsiness with an expression that told him they'd been at it for a while.

"So I think the neighborhood's awake now," Jensen called out, and Jared turned to look at him with an almost guilty smile.

"Hey."

"Hey yourself, what are you doing?"

"Fixing the porch, like I said I would. I don't have to go in to work today."

"Oh?"

"I wanted to spend your day off with you."

Jensen's mouth twitched as he tried not to laugh. "Oh, yeah, my day off. That precious day when I get to lay in bed until nine or so.."

Jared dropped the hammer he was holding and quickly stepped up to where Jensen was. "Shit, I'm sorry-"

"Jay, relax. I'm up now."

Still, Jared leaned in and gave him a quick kiss. When he pulled back he waved his hands in the air, showing how filthy he was. "Sorry. No hands this morning. I've been working on the bikes too."

"You can make it up to me tonight."

Behind Jared, Matty made a gagging sound and they both laughed. "I think we're embarrassing the boy," Jared said, eyes twinkling.

"You've been my parents for nearly eight years," Matty told them. "I think the time for embarrassment has long since passed."

"Har har. I was gonna roll Angel out when this was done and get you doing a few things, but-"

"But then you figured, 'hell, he already knows way too much and I could better spend the time with his dad while he takes her out for a spin,'" Matty interrupted.

"Nice try."

"Come on, it's about time I got to ride her."

"When you're 18, yes. Until then, sorry bud."

"How old were you when you started riding?"

Jared clicked his tongue at that. "Beside the point. Like Jeff would say, do as I say-"

"Not as I do, yeah, I hear that a lot. What happened to you guys? I swear you used to be bad influences on people."

"Ah, the good old days," Jared murmured. "As for what happened, you and your sister happened, that's what. We grew up."

"And how," Jensen agreed. "Plus, you know, you're nearly forty so it's about time you did that."

"Rub it in, why don't you?"

"Whenever I get the chance. Where is Hannah, by the way?"

"She took Flicker out for a ride."

Jensen glanced towards the paddock and saw that, sure enough, Hannah's pony was gone. His own horse, Victory, the Chestnut filly that Jared had bought him for his thirty-third birthday, was still there. He suddenly itched to be out there too, although hanging out with Jared was just as tempting. As if he knew what Jensen was thinking, Jared shook his head.

"Go on, we'll be about another hour."

Jensen thanked him with another kiss and went inside to get his boots.

TBC???

Now...I'm almost sure I had more of this somewhere...I'll keep looking!
