Escape Pod

I'm having difficulty figuring out if these people are actually serious or if it was written by left-wingers in disguise. The above link is a review of my new and exciting sci-fi podcast by what appears to be a far right-wing conservative political blog.

((Edit: After looking around more, I am quite convinced that it it is a parody of Christian conservatism, and that kind of annoys me in quite the opposite way than my complaints below. Simplistic parodies of liberals annoy me quite a bit anyway; the more I look at this, the more it makes me sick. I already wrote out the this-is-a-serious-website rant, though, and I don't feel like ranting anymore.))

One story that the blog complains about, "My Friend is a Lesbian Zombie," I skipped over because I wasn't that interested. It is one of the few Escape Pod stories I have avoided, and not having listened to it, I can't really have an informed opinion of the blog's review. Yet, judging by the other stories in Escape Pod, it would have been more satirical and "fun" than a poignant battle cry of homosexuality that the article makes it out to be.
The other story mentioned, "Aliens Love Oranges," is about a small bar in a rural Florida town in which the proprietor decides that some of their new customers are aliens because they say "aboot" instead of "about" and wear their wristwatches on the inside of their wrists. One of the "aliens" is a girl in her early twenties who goes by her internet moniker "Mustang," is working as an assistant manager at a fruit stand because she can't do anything else, and is insecure in her small town largely because she is the only lesbian she knows. Because they think she is an alien, they show her all about space and the stars. She gets interested, goes to college, and becomes successful. The premise was more interesting than the story itself, I thought, but it was still a cute story that I enjoyed listening to. Is it really the devil?

The fact that they called all podcasts and science fiction evil while calling The Passion of the Christ the perfect movie implied to me that it was written by a left-wing group who was making fun of Republicans. But the fact that they picked out two lesbian stories from Escape Pod and bashed them instead of, say, the evil time-travel stories which include people doing things that they are incapable of doing and are therefore outside of God's plan, makes it look to me as though they might be actual conservatives.

But then, as I go through the episodes I've listened to, I'm having trouble finding some that are completely innocent. Almost all involve violence or drugs or gratuitous science (note Shelley's last comment on the blog article) in some way or another. I still think they're all good stories (and I still don't think gratuitous science is bad), but I can't really use any of them as examples on this blog as to why Escape Pod has its Christian aspects. Anyway, I'll need a mite more convincing before I find a new hobby.

Not only that, but the blog killed my browser when I tried to post a comment. Maybe they have discovered the truth about Firefox. :)

politics, sigh, parody, iwaswrong
