[Fic] Imaginary (SnF)

Author notes: An exercise in 15 minutes...which took me 4 hours to bother to write. *smacks self* I am hopeless. Just a drabble to play with a writing style idea.

Imaginary
Kazuki knows Soushi’s gone, for the moment at least.
It is a hard fact to forget when it leaves a gaping wound in his heart, invisible to all, but squeezing the air from his lungs with every breath.
The island continues its life as before, every person with their role, AVIS personnel still a second life. Even if there is no longer an enemy to be fought, outside is a hostile world to be wary of.
Yet it is also very different from what was before.
People live, going about their everyday tasks.
Kazuki but waits.
He feels separated from everything around him.
Alone.
Although there is Canon, Sakura, Kenji and Maya, there is no Soushi.
He is nowhere, especially not on the island.
So the flash of long hair and purposeful strides turning the corner can not be him, even if Kazuki is driven to check.
The sense of companionship that engulfs him on the wharf is imagined.
A chuckle on the breeze is wishful thinking.
An awkward caress, but a dream.
Soushi is not there.
So Kazuki waits.
