Congrats to Gov. Easley and the North Carolina State Legislature on passing a raise to the minimum wage to $6.15. They did what Congress seems incapable of, standing up for the working class folk in this country

Good move for your state, Doc, if that is what the people want.
In the grand scheme of things, a minimum wage makes more sense if it is set by the state and not the federal government. The cost of living obviously varies by geographic location. $6.15 may suffice in NC (doubtful), but there is no way that it would be adequate in a more expensive state like CA.
It also makes more sense on a state-by-state basis simply because of the competition aspect. The more a state raises their minimum wage, the more attractive they appear to people who work minimum wage jobs. I can imagine a minimum wage war between two states, much like a price war between to competing companies. I would imagine there is currently a similar competition between states with/without income taxes.
Three cents? Did the minimum wage on opinions go up? :)
I agree. I would likely support abolishing the Federal minimum wage if I had some degree of confidence that the states could be competitive. My concern on that front is that, in an effort to lure businesses, they would keep the minimum wage low. Its tricky either way.

Just my two three cents.
