Not one of my better days...
My company laid me off yesterday. The official reason is that my position is being replaced for a project with higher priority than the stuff I was working on. We were in a hiring freeze so I was the odd man out, apparently. They were somewhat generous with severance so at least I have some time to look for a job. The timing sucks with the holidays coming up, but such is life.
I won't lie and say it isn't disappointing. I had been at Compass for 9 and a half years and really didn't have any substantive thoughts about leaving anytime soon. But as John Lennon once said, "Life is what happens while you're making other plans."
The rest of my life is pretty awesome, so, while this is significant for obvious reasons, I feel pretty good about riding thru this. I have so much more to be thankful for.
