I have a lot of very small things of which to inform the hypothetical (nonexistent) readers of this blog-in several cases, because I haven't bothered to finish the full materials to upload. So:
I managed to return from working for arifyn. I will comment a bit later on one of the perks of the job. Meanwhile, I continue to be reminded that I really hate traveling. I need to remember to dribble.
On the way, I finished the brief for "These Aren't the Droids for Which You're Looking." The only thing missing was the name for the Neimoidian fellow (or fillie, depending on the player's choice), because I didn't take Secrets of Naboo (which has the example names) with me. (There is exactly one example name for Neimoidians that doesn't belong to a specific character as far as I know.) Of course, I decided while I was working on plans that I'm going to change at least one character's class level distribution, but, in any case, I should be able to upload it as soon as I'm not lazy. (I didn't realize until 21:00, which is the time I get to use the Internet, that I hadn't unpacked and plugged in the laptop so I could get the file off it.)
While I was hanging out at the transportation office waiting for the bus, I was exposed to TV. Besides an Irish? chap making fun of Dick Cheney and several sitcoms and repeats of the same news, there was a report about chivalry (the modern "be nice to ladies" version, not the historical ("obey nobles, crush commoners beneath your iron heel" version), since it was Valentine's, after all. Unfortunately, by that point I had moved to the opposite end of the room to avoid the humans and lie on the most comfortable seats (the only padded ones where I could do so without wedging myself under armrests), so I didn't get to hear much of it. It was apparently some guy learning how to be nice to ladies. The fact that he was not taken seriously was the obvious thing. It's such an ingrained part of our society that men are expected to treat ladies like dirt, that it's perfectly understandable that they should think that one is making fun of them if one doesn't. So it's essentially between being branded as a chauvinist or being ridiculed because one's doing something so alien. Still, if I had any conscience, I would do the right thing on principle, regardless of such obstacles. Yes, that's the ever-present "if."
My order from amazon has shipped. Woo. (No, I did not just win at mah-jongg.)
While I was looking through some stuff for "TADWYL," I realized that there were just too many good Force-user ideas for me to be able to pass up making an adventure about them. ("TADWYL" is set in the Rebellion era, so that's limiting, to say nothing of the fact that it's full of droids, who obviously can't use the Force.) So I thought up an idea for an adventure set in the later days of the Old Republic, with agents of the Jedi Council tracking down a cell of dark Jedi on a remote planet. Of course, to do many of the things I want to do, I would have to buy The Dark Side Sourcebook. Alternatively, I could keep this adventure as a contingent and schedule a session. If I could get the book from the library within two weeks of the date, I could use the adventure. Otherwise, I'd have to revert to one of the others I'd planned.
There was a rather unfocused article today in the J&C about role-playing games. It wasn't clear whether the author intended to include video games (Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, and True Crime were mentioned) in the category. The actual information was just a basic explanation of what an RPG is and various people's comments on them.
I have exactly 13 mutual friends. It's good to have good luck to stave off Christian holidays.
