at what point do people stop embracing new technology? like is there an age? cause our grandparents were clearly ok with the television but refuse to learn to use a cell phone, happily learned to program the vcr but will leave this earth with out ever buying a dvd even though they have been the accepted format for movies for AGES now. and forget even mentioning the tivo! their heads would explode!
will this happen to me and the chad? one day will some new fangled contraption come along and the chad and i will look at it and go "nah, we dont need or want to own that even if the rest of the planet is using it." or is it different with out generation cause sooooo much has changed technology-wise in so little time that we will always want to have the new thing or the better smarter contraption and so we will learn to use it?
i remember most people in my highschool didnt even own a pager. (i graduated in '95 for you that dont know) owning a cell was unheard of. the computer i took typing on was some monsterous apple. it had a dark green screen and light green letters that popped up and it was nothing more than a glorified calculator and typewriter. me myself i prefered the clickety-whiz-clack of the electric typwriters we used to have to the new apple computers. the keyboards were like 6 inches thick and i hated that stupid paper with the perforated hole strips on the sides. those holes caught in these little spikes in the printer and it litteraly wound the paper through the printer (for those that dont remember these and i am sure there are a few). i hated the stupid bumpy edges it left after you tore off the hole strips. and you HAD to tear them off or the paper didnt fit in your folder.
anywhoozle, the point is look at me now. bloggy bloggin and fancy laptop havin and photoshop usin and i dont even own a home phone anymore. cell phone or bust baby! granted i am fairly resistent to change and the chad is the one who keeps forcing me forward, but will there be a day when i dont know how to comunicate in a basic way with the younger folk cause i dont know how to use the technology nessicary?
just a thought. what are yours on this issue?
