In case you hadn't heard yet, the fetus fetishist terrorists have just murdered a 67 year old doctor as he was sitting in church.His crime was, of course, performing abortions for women who choose to or medically need to have them in a safe, clean clinic. And did I mention that this is LEGAL in the U.S.? Much as these jihadist Fundie fetus freaks

It's obscene, as a woman, to be told that a fetus too small to live outside the womb is more deserving of the right to live than I am. I don't know ANYONE who thinks abortion is a Good Thing. Of course it's not! In an ideal world, no woman would be put in the position of having to continue a pregnancy she didn't consent to, choose, or want. But it's not an ideal world, and we all have to live in it and do the best we can. Sometimes, for some women, that's terminating a pregnancy that was the result of rape or incest, or a pregnancy that will threaten to take her away from her family.

I held a friend's hand in college after she had an abortion that she felt was the best thing for her -- she was in love with the father, but he didn't love her and wanted nothing to do with her or a baby. She was young, poor, and estranged from her family because of her religious beliefs, and she just couldn't see a path ahead of her that might be safe to walk with a baby. She was so, so sad.

The people who would have wanted to deny her a safe, legal abortion are often the same people who roll their eyes and sigh about "those welfare mothers." You know, the mythical welfare mothers who keep having children so they don't have to work, and spend all their food stamps on Doritos and Coca Cola for decades. *Sigh*

This is such a tragedy. I'm thinking healing thoughts for Dr. Tiller's family. If I believed in heaven, I'm sure I'd think that was where he was headed.
