Still here, you unmitigated bastards. Not goin' anywhere, either.

A couple of people have asked me what the cultural "climate" has been like in California since the whole heated Prop 8 campaign jumped up and pimp slapped all of us in the mouth last November.

Well, here's a couple of great examples of what's been happening out here...

School Halts 6th Grader's Report on Harvey Milk

and

Lesbian Pastor Causes Uproar At East Bay High School

It's significant to note here that this particular lesbian pastor had spoken at this high school's "Diversity Day" for the past three years without incident, but in the wake of Prop.8's hysteria stoking, now all of a sudden the Fundie McNugget parents are up at arms about the "gay agenda" at Castro Valley High. On Diversity Day. At a high school. Not an elementary school or a middle school, but a "four years at maximum from going to college" HIGH school.

The little girl in the first news story had seen "Milk" and had decided that Harvey Milk was a hero and thus, she wanted to write her report about him. Since he happened to be gay, the school district decided that he wasn't an acceptable hero and then when they got caught being a bunch of puking cowardly homophobes, they tried to say that reporting on a gay figure violated the school district's sex education policies.

Riiiight. Because a sixth grade report on a gay person is necessarily going to include graphic descriptions of anal sex or something. I mean, of course it is. *roll*

According to the kid's mother, the little girl in question was marched into the principal's office as though she'd done something wrong and treated like her presentation was (in her words) "icky."

Apparently hate crimes in California have been up since Prop. 8 too.

The power group has identified queers as the acceptable target, so let's keep up the momentum we started by legislatively bashing them and take it to the streets! Kick 'em when they're down, that'll show them not to mess with those of us who exemplify the love of Jeebus!

This is one of the things that folks tend to forget when we talk about marriage equality and these sorts of battles - it's about more than just who has the right to get married, it's about who has the right to be fully human and who's not. Fundamentally it's about who has the right to exist and who does NOT.

The lesbian preacher, the little girl's report on Harvey Milk, the attacks on GLBT people? They're all about one thing - expunging us from the record, exiling us from the social sphere, removing us from the world, making us too scared to stand up and insist on full equality. Silencing us. This is the truth behind the anti-gay people's agendas:

"Why can't you people just go back into the railroad car..er...closet?"

And it's happening in my own back yard. Literally, my own back *%!#ing yard.
Gods, I hope the supreme court comes down with a ruling that smashes Prop.8 into a billion, ka-zillion teeny tiny little smithereens.

I am so sick of these people and their constant hectoring and harrying of me and my kind as we just try to live our goddamn lives in the spaces between their fist blows to our heads. I had such a visceral reaction to the woman on the video clip talking about the "gay agenda" being promoted at Castro Valley High. I was thinking "You're local...I can FIND you and slap the evil outta your mouth."

*deep cleansing breaths*

I am a pacifist. I am a pacifist. I am a pacifist. Ohm ohmmmmm ohmmmmmahgawd I'ma slap somebody....

I really do hope that the three kids who are statistically likely gay in those Fundie parents' households get the hell out and find themselves some happiness and love and have good lives - which they'll know is waiting for them because they got to hear a lesbian pastor speak at their high school.

Dear Anti-gay hystrionic anachronisms,

Your kids know that gay people exist and guess what? They don't CARE. You should ask them why this is so, maybe you're learn sump'in.

No Love,

Teh Qweerz

SO much RAGE...it was like FLAMES coming out from the side of my head..
