New House Smell

Mar 31, 2010 12:24

Well, for the most part it still smells of pine-sol, damp cardboard, and paint.  It's home though.

The rain has allowed us to take up a new hobby:  flood hockey.

Flood hockey is the bastard child of curling and water polo.  And it's so easy to play, lots of people here in the northeast don't even realize they're playing it!

What do you need to play flood hockey, you ask?  All you need is your stick (I myself like the shop broom with the squeegee on the back) and your own flood hockey rink.  Flood hockey rinks are usually flat, perferably made of cement, and have at least 1/2" of water in them.  Also, they have a "goal" - our larger rink has the door to the garage, where the floor slopes down and out of the house and into a drain in the driveway.  The smaller rink has the hole with the sump pump.  Your goal may differ.

And then, it's push-push-push the water toward the goal!  If you are able to achieve multiple "dryish" spots that last for more than 5 minutes, you win!  You lose if you collapse from cardiac arrest, or get despondent over the lack of progress.  Some rinks will add difficulty in the form of open cracks in the wall through which water flows/spurts/arcs, or for non-diluvian-matches, pipes that are leaking or open - sometimes from a broken water heater.

Thanks to the rain we've been having, I was able to play 2 rounds last night, and I heard both Mr. Marz and BroMarz each play a round as well!  North-easterners, try it today!
