Girl still alive, woman who hit her "probably drunk"
FINALLY, after over a month, I found an update on the little girl who was hit by a woman who then chugged a beer and laughed in the face of the girl's mother (both mother and daughter are obviously Latino, the driver looks and talks/acts white).
I'd written about it on November 9, after I'd found out about it. Both of us have been wanting to keep up with the situation, because we see (quite frequently) how bigoted and racist this hellhole of a county really is. What I HAVE found out is that multiple witnesses reported the woman chugging (or drinking) a beer and laughing in the face of the mother (I take it as the little girl lay on the ground).
The update said that the police thought she was drunk. IMO - and the evidence does support this, I think she saw a little Latino girl, her hate got the best of her, and then she ran the girl down (turns out she'd gone off the main road and hit the girl - then started chugging in the sight of the witnesses). I rather suspect she DID chug a beer (or more) so that her blood alcohol content would be high and she wouldn't face "attempted murder" charges. That is the sort of nasty, sneaky things people do around here - so they can do horrible things and not face the full punishment for their actions.
The little girl? She has bad brain damage, but is still alive and recovering slowly. She's in the hospital in Tampa. It's an added burden for her parents. They say they don't expect her to ever be the same again.
I fully expect the "laughing in the Mother's face" will be forgotten and never come up again, and she'll just get a slap on the wrist for being drunk and hitting the girl. That's the sort of "Justice" you'll find here.
Except if the perp had been minority, she would probably be sitting in jail right now and facing attempted murder charges, and our great news services would have the "laughing in the Mother's Face" spread all over the news. That sort of thing also happens here... and based on the things I've witnessed since I moved here decades ago, it's deliberate and the cops do it all the time. (The DA in this county DID have his ability to try Capital cases revoked, because so many of the minority people he'd put in prison were freed by the Innocence Project - with evidence of deliberate malfeasance and railroading.)
