Pleasing thing in the news (edited... I got more information)

An Alabama UU minister pleaded guilty to breaking their law - she was going to marry a lesbian couple in the courthouse during a period when licenses were available to same-sex couples. I think she was arrested... I'm not clear on the details, but I think that some judge or politician had ordered that no marriages between same-sex couples would be done there (I don't know about 'straight' marriages) and they went after her for violating those 'rules'.

I know several same-sex couples, both male and female. They're committed to each other and as a rule, are far more accepting and tolerant than any Bible-pounders (whether they are Christian or not). They don't force their relationship on others... at least, no more than any married "straight" couple would or does. Yet there is a big fuss and even threats of rebellion and violence if same-sex marriage is not made against the law (again). I've heard some of the tallest tales from churches... I'd swear that they were taking what they considered the norm, inverting it, and creating the stories from that. No clue whatsoever. It disgusts me... and grieves me. So many people claiming to value truth and yet supporting and promoting (and repeating) lies.

We need more like that minister. She had a 30 day jail term - suspended by the judge, plus 6 months probation (but she doesn't have to see a probation officer). (Edit - I thought her license had been suspended for 30 days but that turned out to be a misunderstanding on my part. Part of it was skimming the material, and applying what used to be the law in Florida - your license was revoked if you married a same-sex couple and you COULD go to jail and pay a stiff fine.)

Personally, I think she's closer to what a Christian should be like than all of the Bible-Pounders (especially the ones who will break the law to promote hate and exclusion - instead of promoting love and acceptance). I'm tired of being discriminated against... and having my friends also receive discrimination.
