Al Jazeera

The more I read Al Jazeera for news, the more I admire them.

I read things there that I don't encounter elsewhere, or that I have "other knowledge" of but which aren't reported anywhere in the "mainstream press". They've pretty much been right on the money, careful to tell pretty much the facts, and I have only seen a few examples of propaganda (at least, in the US version). Most of the propaganda has been pro-Islam, anti-Israel but even then the anti-Israel was mild.

The editorial about Graduate Assistants was right on track, speaking as someone who has been a Graduate Assistant for a few years. We (at least some of us and I felt this way on occasion) have felt betrayed and let down by the Faculty, who may talk Marx (who is misread and misunderstood by most Americans - who have been brainwashed) but who as the editorial suggests, goes home to enjoy the good life while we live on nearly minimum wage. The administration DOES negotiate in bad faith, and they DO try to make us work for nothing while demanding that we pay full price for our credit hours. They tried that when I had time to be more active in the union, and I watched as the school got caught with their pants down and their dishonesty and violation of the rules gained us medical care (through the student insurance, which wasn't much but better than nothing). What was doubly irritating as the school had hired a law firm known as top "union busters" for the region (if not the country) and while they were trying to force us to work for minimum wage while paying $400 an hour for our classes, at the same time they were going to increase our school president's pay by tens of thousands of dollars and increase her benefits package (she makes hundreds of thousands a year). Shoot, they were going to give her husband $50,000 or so a year just so if he wanted to travel with her, he could.

There are several other subjects that are discussed there but nowhere else... the rabid hatred from the Bible-pounding Christians, for instance, who claim to be persecuted yet are the persecutors. (Al Jazeera seems to be quite neutral when it comes to religion, but it's refreshing to read people saying the truth about what goes on in this country. They describe exactly what I've seen and experienced, although they haven't gotten into the horrific cruelty like the "Good" christians in this area have shown - towards anyone who isn't Christian and who opposes their proselytizing and forcing religious practice on others.)

I recommend Al Jazeera to anyone. I just wish the "Good Christians" in this area (and conservatives/Christians in general) would also read them... they might see themselves in the mirror and do that thing they like to prattle and preach at everyone else - repent. They might also come to realize how much they're being yanked around and brainwashed by the mainstream media (and their 1% masters), especially the likes of Fox.
