Dozier school

More on the Dozier school situation.

The go-ahead to continue research (and the search) and excavation of the graves has been given.

This is very good news, although it's going to increase hostility towards my school and department (and makes me worry for my friends and colleagues) from the North Florida counties. They've been trying their best to get the state to refuse excavation and further searching... and the headlines in that area are talking about digging up "Christian Burials" (trying to inflame passions against my friends and colleagues).

Christian burials... shallow graves under roads, in or next to garbage dumps, and so on? Yeah, right.

Our "Great" governor Rick Scott resisted until the end, when he capitulated and signed the order. That makes me suspicious, although it's interesting that this rabidly Religious Right state government would allow something like what we want done. There has been no justice for those boys, and the whites in the county are screaming bloody murder... they don't want ANYTHING done at the school (some of them flatly state that "There are no burials at Dozier and all of this is made up!")

I suspect there is a big Klan connection to this. The things that have been related to us by colleagues almost shout "The Klan is trying to hide something!". I suggested to Erin Kimmerle that there was a Klan connection and it startled her... because she'd picked up hints of that while up there.

The thing is, there have been over 90 graves found in one cemetery alone, while there are records for only something like 45 boys dying. There are supposed to be three separate cemeteries, of which we've found the "black" cemetery. There is also a "whites only" cemetery and a third rumored one.

One news article also suggests that the school was earning money by farming... making the boys do the work. Some said that they were literally slaves while in the school (survivors) - into the 50s and 60s. That falls right in line with my suspicions, because the Klan is known to pull stunts like that. There have been incidents where "illegal immigrants" and others were treated like that, and rumors came out that the people doing it were connected to the Klan. They certainly were "Good Ole Boys".

This is the worrisome thing. Our "Great" sheriff is facing a lawsuit from the SPLC because of the treatment his office gives to juveniles. It sounds a hell of a lot like "Dozier Lite". He's trying to pull the same crap as the people in north Florida, and has denouncing the SPLC as liberal. He's also been the subject of more than one separation of church and state lawsuit. I'm suspicious as hell of the office anyway (stopped 25 times in 35 years, and over 2/3 of the stops being bogus is why) and I think that they're trying to DECREASE surveillance of how they treat young people and minorities... same as Dozier.

We need more whistleblowers, more people exposing the reality of this state (and country), and justice for those wronged. The whole property at Dozier (hundreds of acres) needs to be thoroughly checked out... I'd bet that much is hidden there that the "Good Christians" of this state don't want to come into the light of day... it would show their rabid hypocrisy.

(I'm glad that progress is happening, I'm concerned for my friends and colleagues, and I'm angry that there are so many "Good Christians" and others fighting to keep everything hidden. I'm also a bit frightened because I've written openly about something that is dangerous... the Klan is still very much a presence in this hellhole of a state. Thus, the mood is "complex".)
