Pleasant surprise today

I'm so used to lots and lots of bad news, especially when it comes to kitties (generally talking about hoarders or things like that), plus dealing with a county (and region) where most of the people are hostile to cats (at least not friendly), that today's news was a refreshing change.

There were two cute cat stories in the news. One was about the Humane Society doing a cat transfusion and saving the life of someone's kitty, and the other was about a cat stowaway on a freighter, who survived and will be adopted.

The transfusion... our vet has a permanent in-house kitty whose "job" is to help provide transfusions if needed (plus everyone likes it) - we really like him and his crew because they love cats (and cut us slack because they know our situation and how we've been targeted for dropoffs). I'm a bit surprised that the Humane Society hasn't been doing that before, but since most of the news (regarding cats) about that organization I've gotten wasn't positive, this is a very encouraging sign.

Our kitties have been one of the few bright spots in our life, even though we have too many of them (thanks to selfish people who drop them off in our yard rather than take care of their own - usually pregnant females). It's really healing to have Sunshine come up and lay down on my chest while I'm working or reading stuff (he's been there for the last 15 minutes). Watching little Mosie (our latest addition... the little tiny kitten I rescued about four months ago and who is now a cute but still tiny cat) playing crazily with the others and with us... it's nice to have something to laugh at! Their intelligence and interaction with each other is so fun to watch (although sometimes they get to be bullies, and we have to yell at the bully).

I doubt that the pleasant news will change any local hearts, but at least there WAS something nice to read (cats are so often portrayed as bad or evil or a problem - think about all of the Disney movies and cartoons and how they're portrayed)... and we can hope that news like that will encourage people to be kinder to them. They deserve it - and in this area, need it.

I like having something positive to share!
