NaBloPoMo #6: El problema somos nosotros

Nov 06, 2008 19:36

I got this video from my baby cousin, and though it's in Spanish, I thought I ought to post it, because it's... yeah. The problem is us, not my country's government or my country's law, but my country's people. The sole responsible for the sad state of affairs -economic, security, education, opportunity, culture, ecology, you name it- is us. It's ( Read more... )

Yeah, I think everything you say can be applied to every country. :( Maybe it's just that I'm in an incredibly cynical and bitchy mood, but...

I'm sorry you're in a bad mood, but.. I think it's better to have them, sometimes, if just to break our delusions once in a while and face ourselves and our kind with the truth, as bitter as it might be. We're all human, and terribly flawed at that. And we're also capable of great things. But we have to try harder, we really do....

*hugs* Change starts by ourselves, right? We will do better.

No, you are right. It's not just Mexico. People ... are people. Because most of us know something must be done, but we're too afraid to say it in case we have to be the one to do it, and it seems too big when you're faced with that kind of choice. But ... to quote one of my favourite movies "A life lived in fear is a life half lived" (Strictly Ballroom).

Go you, for standing up! *hugs*

We're all human, and we're all flawed... we're capable of great things, of marvelous things, but we do tend to shy from the big challenges, and my culture, as much as I love parts of it, is so conditioned to finding excuses instead of producing results... I really think we can make a change, that we're different from the ones before -but that's also very petulant and naive, I know the potential for change, for better things, has always lived in us. But I want to be better. I will not live and work in a system that know is flawed and I hate. It might be harder to fight it all the time, but I know I can do it, I know it's worth doing, even if nothing comes of it, at least I'll still be able to live with myself. There *has* to be a better way, damn it, and at least I'm gonna do the effort of looking for it.

*muses* You know, I wrote an essay once, for my mock finals, where I wondered about the nature of power, and cynicism v idealism as the driving forces of change. I think ... the argument went that cynics hold power in the present. Idealists hold power for the future, and act as catalysts of change. And then ... change happens, and still somehow people stay the same, and change doesn't seem as powerful as it did. And the idealists become cynics in their turn, the power of the present, the status quo against which the next generation of idealists rail ( ... )

LOL! it hurts to admit it as a culture, you know? how we have brought this on ourselves, and nobody else is to blame. But it's true, and unless we own up to it and work to change it, it's never going to magically get fixed.

I am an idealistic fool, but I know I do my share of things that could be improved upon. It's the small things, you know? You start by fixing those, and I think it will escalate.

I want results. I am scared of taking action because I'm afraid to fail, but it's better to try than not to try, right? I can't point fingers and expect things to improve. The small things I can change! and that will give me momentum to change the big things, at least in my life. And hopefully that will have some sort of impact. One can hope, at least. *hugs back*
