Second entry for Ghost Fires. This time is Harvey's turn. I wrote two ficlets for the
psych_30 challenge, but they need beta'ing and I'm not sure if I like them. It's the Ventriloquist fault. Also, quote of the day!
She plucked from my lapel the invisible strand of lint (the universal act of woman to proclaim ownership).
O Henry (1862-1910)
*giggle* I love it, don't ask me why. And I have an intense craving for some Oscar Wilde now..
Also! Question: How is H'romer spelled? You know, the Martian God? I can't find it anywhere (not that I'm looking too hard).

2)Harvey Dent (Cravings)
The second Harvey saw the quiet boy with the sad blue eyes, the one that seemed to be a hundred miles away if you were watching him, and disturbingly intense when you weren’t, he decided they would be friends.
Harvey ‘Apollo’ Dent had no trouble getting a transfer to the Science building dorms, despite being a Law student. His new roommate took classes all over the place, obviously not caring about a diploma but following his hunger for knowledge. The hunger was something Harvey could admire and share, something he had grown to crave over the years.
Over the time they spent as roommates, Harvey learned to read Bruce and understand him, which was no small feat as Bruce’s far away looks weren’t always feigned and the boy relied on non verbal communication far more than anyone else Harvey had ever known.
Harvey knew Bruce’s hunger wouldn’t keep him in one place for long, and when his friend told him he was dropping out, Harvey wasn’t surprised. He told him he would be missed, using Bruce’s preferred method of communication the best he could. A warm look, a long hug, a soft sigh. Bruce smiled and hugged him back, which meant he would miss Harvey too, and gave him a look that took Harvey many years to properly identify.
When Bruce came back to Gotham, Harvey finally understood what he had meant, many years ago. It had been Bruce promising him he would be back, asking Harvey to wait for him.
Harvey felt betrayed at first. The hunger for knowledge, for justice, for whatever it was that burned within Bruce was something he had never seen again, something he had been looking for since his best friend went away. The man who came back -the shallow playboy- wasn’t what he was expecting, but he wasn’t fooling Harvey Dent; he knew better.
So when he first met Batman, Harvey could barely keep himself from smiling. After years of not knowing exactly what was he looking for, he found the creature driven by a hunger for knowledge, for justice, for life, again. There was no way of disguising it, no shadow or darkness, no cape or cowl that could keep Harvey from recognizing Bruce. This secret knowledge fueled his cravings, the man’s actions fueled his awe, and for a while Harvey was happy to watch from afar.
Then Two-Face happened. Lost in a world of black and white, Harvey couldn’t stop himself from becoming Fate’s fool. He couldn’t stop Two-Face any less than Two-Face could stop him, but Harvey could keep Bruce safe, in a way.
One day the coin came up scarred, and the time to watch from afar was over.
