That was awesome. I really feel like you got into his head. Everything with Damian is urgency and impatience not merely because he's a kid, but also because he really doesn't understand the advantages of waiting. He isn't sure what it is he should be observing and what conclusions he should be drawing. He just doesn't get it and can't tell if these people who are so weak (different) even have anything worth knowing.

He wants to understand, but is so far behind in comprehending the concepts..

Awesome work. ^_^

I really like how frustrated he can get. I think culture shock is really embarrassing and frustrating, and Damian just doesn't have a frame of reference for what the batfamily would call normal. He wants to understand and be part of it, but he has a very big gap to cross.. I really hope he and Dick can find some common ground! he's really fun to play with for me, culture shock is such a pain :P

Thank you for reading! :D

LOL, I love your icon X) and I'm so glad you enjoyed this, hangover and all! *hands aspirin and water* Stupid hangovers...

I have a lot of fun playing with Damian's alienation, how.. self contained he is in some ways. He lacks a frame of reference for 'normal' life in Gotham! I was reading earlier this morning an article about how different cultures interpret facial expressions in different ways -which makes sense, given that there is no such thing as a global non-verbal language- so I think that he can read fighting because that's the language he learned. Occidental -specifically, American- non verbals must be very cryptic! Even if he was raised speaking English instead of learning it as a second tongue -which.. I am not sure he would have been- he would have been brought up in a completely different cultural background, given the power structures and cult-like organization of the Demon. I try to keep his forms of speech consistent but I faaailll, lol ( ... )

I love Damian's voice here! He's so hard and unyielding, but with these moments that ... aren't warm, but are touching nonetheless:

But where? He is not in the computers nor the data banks. Who can answer his questions, now?

And I love how you capture his frustration over the lack of clear cut, logical rules to follow, and how he just wants one straightforward explanation for once. I hope Dick sheds some light on Damian's questions on their trip!

Your description of the way Damian sees Dick is awesome, too (ladyk_d_azrael already quoted the lines I was going to, so I will just point at her comment!)

And your last line is perfect!

Home. Wherever that is. Even though it's lost to him now, he isn't afraid. He is strong enough to find it again.

Go Damian! You can find your place in the world and the answers to your questions! Yes!

Silly Damian is so woobie!! D: he's got all this bravado going on, but he's so lonely and frustrated... he makes me laugh and then he breaks my heart, he's eeevil!

I really want Dick and Damian to find some common ground.. I think Alfred is more likely to reach him first, which would be awesome, but I just don't want Damian to loose patience or hope before he can find someone who can help him! Thank you for reading, sis! :D and you're back in LJ, yay! wb!!

Wow, I'm really loving the way you get into Damian's head here in such a thought-provoking and sensitive way. So many people tend to write him off as two-dimensional because of the way he interacts with others, but you really fleshed out the layers there and the reasoning behind why he behaves that way so nicely. Beautiful work. XD

Yay, thank you! I think he's a very interesting character, he's very young and has a lot of space to grow, and he has what I think are very interesting issues. I like building on them! he's a woobie, even if he's dangerous! maybe even more because he's dangerous.. lol. I'm so glad you enjoyed this! thank you for reading! :D

Oh my god, that was fricking wonderful!!! I loved every word. It was so Damian, spot on in every way. ~flail~ I feel rather excited about this. So many people say he's just a little snot but you've proven here that he's so much more than a kid with a chip. He's just ... different. He doesn't understand.

A trip? with Grayson? "Would Pennyworth be coming?"

"Sure."

Well, that couldn't be worse than the Winter of the Pit. Maybe not even as bad as the dance of the hundred swords. More like... that spring swarm ritual he never really understood.

LMAO!!

Fantastic! I'll be putting this with my next batch of multi-fandom recs in my LJ. And it's going in my Delicious account! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Yay!! I'm so glad you liked this, thank you!! I love playing with Damian's frustration and confusion, he's just.. so far removed from a normal childhood that I think he just can't see a lot of the subtleties we only understand because of out cultural shaping. He is so much fun to write as an unreliable narrator! All the things that bother him about Dick are actually things that can be good about Dick, he just has no frame of reference for them. And.. I think it would be pretty normal for kids to up the bravado when they don't feel safe or accepted, and I don't think Damian feels comfortable in Gotham yet... once he settles in he might be less unwieldy!

Thank you so much for reading! I'm thrilled you enjoyed this, your fb has made my day! :D
