Plumber recommendation?

Can anyone refer me to a good plumber? Last night I went downstairs in search of a deck of cards and discovered my water heater leaking all over the floor. Marvin took a look at it and determined that it's coming from underneath somewhere and it looks as if it may also have leaked from the top. Just fuckin' great! I never expected to have to replace a 5-year-old water heater! To make it more interesting, Marvin asked where my floor drain was. I'd never thought about the fact that I don't have one anywhere in the floor except on the other end of the basement where my furnace drains. WTF? I'd love to know why they put the water heater on the opposite side of my basement. Why isn't it next to the furnace like it is in most homes?

Tanya said she'd read somewhere that once a year, you're supposed to drain 3/4 of the water out of your water heater to get rid of the sediment at the bottom. I'd heard something along those lines too but how the hell can I do that when there's no drain over there? Do I run a hose from the water heater out the patio doors which are clear across the basement? And how would that work without gravity? Do any of you fellow homeowners drain your water heaters once a year?

Then today, I baked some salmon for lunch. I smelled smoke and realized that Annemarie's unbelievably scrumptious veggie lasagna had bubbled over in the oven last night. No big deal. Lasagna often does that. That's what a self-cleaning oven is for, right? Well, I turned on the self clean and within minutes my entire house was filled with smoke and all 5 of my smoke detectors were piercing my eardrums. When one detector goes off, it triggers every single one in the house. Good idea but 5 of those things sounding at once is literally painful. The only way to get them to shut up is to open all the windows and wait for enough smoke to clear from the detector that detected it. I used the self clean feature on my oven only once before and had forgotten how horrid it is. Never again! Easy Off is a pain in the ass but it's better than a smelly house and ear-piercing sound.

I really do like owning a home most days. Today is not one of them. Grrrr!

Anyway, if you know a reputable plumber, please share their name and number with me!!! I'd greatly appreciate it.
