Practice Journal 3

Long Tones went well today. I decided to sit down and read while practicing today. I did tone exercises from the book, "De La Sonorite," by Marcel Moyse. Not the first time I have read through it, but I have not set eyes on anything but the first exercise in a very long time.

The book is full of useful tips. My favorite tip: 'If you feel you are playing with a lot of tension, relax yourself suddenly. You will be surprised at how quickly this improves your playing.' It worked for me once and it is working for me again.

I am going to read through Trevor Wye's Omnibus edition tomorrow.

I memorized a lot of the Mozart Concerto in G's first movement today. Not much left to memorize... I'm about half done! This endeavor seemed way more daunting than it is. Labeling scale patterns and arpeggios (basically the entire piece) makes things so much easier. Breaking down the piece into phrases also helps. I should read through the 'How Does I Memorize Musics???' packet I got from the National Flute Convention this year to make myself even better at it. =D

3rd day after Christmas. Vacation time is SWEETTTT. haha I know it probably won't last. :3

Uhh.... Didn't practice much technique today. I'll do F tomorrow. I'll remind myself to read through the previous journal entries as well.

I did practice some emboucher flexibility things in F this morning though.

I am going to dedicate the rest of the day to organizing next semester and some courses I want to take... I need to manage my time well because I am going to go for 22 units next semester so I can keep my summer free to study Music Theory/Musicianship for placement tests. No way I am repeating that shit when I am trying to get 60+ units of hard sciences down in the next 3 years.

Was reading on the SDN that most Med students will time themselves working 40-60 hours a week depending on if they decide to attend lecture or not (less hours skipping lecture). I dunno... I would be afraid to miss assignments or test dates by missing lecture, but I will keep that option in mind.

Well, I never thought of it like that, really. But if I am taking 22 units (3 of those is online Fundamentals of Music so I'm going to say... 19 units lol) But if I am taking 19 units, and want to study 2 hours for every time I have a class... that's 57 hours. 38 hours if I don't attend the classes (but I will haha). I'll call that about 9 hours a day not including Sunday. If I can keep that up without too much Facebook and time wasters, I will probably feel BETTER than I did this semester and be able to keep up 4.0. Happily, I got all (7) A's this semester! Woo!

I will still work at Highlands and still teach the Special Ed Recorder class. It will probably be helpful to me to create the lesson plans NOW to save me time. Just 12 weeks each... I can do that in a few days. I know better what to expect anyway.

Yeah, I should definitely organize my time. But even BETTER I should stick to the plan. It's the only way I'll get anything done (without completely ABUSING 5-hour energy*). I'm starting to get sick of Facebook. It's disgusting how much time I spend on it. Starting today, I'm only ever checking that thing on Sundays.

*Funny story about 5-hour energy.... In a pinch, I would take a 5-hour energy before sleeping so I could wake up energized after 2-3 hours of sleep. Apparently, this tactic doesn't work 2 days in a row as I learned during finals week. O_o' I ... don't wanna write about this now. Oh God, that Statistics Final was hell... I got the highest score on the In-Class, though. Booyah!

I am gonna head to George's and do some work. He is really getting the picture that I am going for something that I find very difficult and challenging for me and he is being very supportive.
