Confusion on Prom Night

Pairing: Yoochun/Junsu (YooSu!!)
Summary: A couple people tell Junsu about Yoochun's feelings for him. Junsu spends the rest of the night avoiding him. Yoochun was his friend. It caused him so much confusion.
Raiting: I'm pretty sure it's G... maybe PG-13 for swearing....?
Warning: boyxboy implications
Word count: 2064
Note: My first DBSK fic!! I am absolutely in love with Yoosu, even though this is a bloody angst/drama fic. I could have given it a different ending, but it's kind of based on real life... I'm Yoochun and Junsu is the guy that I liked but i told it from Junsu's perspective, kind of as a "how i hoped he saw it/how i wanted him to see it" kind of thing.. anyway... ENJOY

“Yoochun likes you.”

“Yoochun told me that he wants to kiss you tonight.”

But then again, both these people were a bit drunk… but does that make it more or less true? If it was true, then that would explain a lot… it would explain why Yoochun was always teasing him, always asking for favours, always doing things for him that he didn’t ask but was nonetheless grateful for.

But… it was Yoochun. His friend Yoochun. How could he possibly do anything with him that was more than just being friends? They hugged all the time but friends do that. He had been shrugging off their words, telling them that he was his friend and saying that he generally doesn’t like getting off with people that he knows really well. It had happened in the past and just made things awkward and uncomfortable later on and he swore to himself that he wouldn’t do it again.

He also just generally didn’t want a boyfriend or girlfriend right now. He felt like he was always running low on money and didn’t feel like he would be able to give his other half what they deserved, even if he did cover it up by saying that he couldn’t be bothered with all the presents and dates.

He suddenly felt his stomach sink. Does that mean that Yoochun only became friends with him to get close to him and get off with him? It happened to one of his friends. This girl got close to his friend and it seemed like they were good friends but then she confessed to him and he apologised because he only saw her as a friend and she didn’t talk to him anymore… he doesn’t want that to happen with Yoochun.

He really liked Yoochun, but only as a friend. Whether it was as a result of what he had just heard or not, he didn’t spend a lot of time with Yoochun that night. Somehow, they were always opposite ends of the room or area and he would avoid any glances in his direction.

He had been talking to someone when he caught Yoochun in the corner of his eye walking past him, over to another group of people and freely started talking and laughing with them. The other person left him and he was left on his own just staring at Yoochun. He leant back against the table behind him as he continued to watch and all kinds of thoughts consumed his mind.

Thoughts like, ‘…but what we had was good!’ as he recalled the laughs that they had so many times, but then a part of him thought, ‘…if he is trying to get with me then why is he over there? Why has he not been coming after me?’ paranoia soon followed, ‘what if they were just joking?’ accompanied by down-heartedness, ‘Then, why do I feel so upset at the idea that it was a joke?’

Drastic movement caused him to focus again and he saw Yoochuns smiling face turning to look at him. Without even thinking about it, he pushed himself away from the table and walked away without even a second glance. He leant against a wall outside trying to look as casual as possible as he tried to calm his beating heart. He joined into a group conversation, trying desperately to forget about Park Yoochun when he felt a tap on his shoulder.

“Junsu, have you heard… something… funny?” it was Yoochun. He had a nervous smile on his face and he knew that Yoochun wasn’t talking about some witty comment or joke.

“Yeah” he said before following some people inside, he could have sworn he heard Yoochun mutter “Damn it!” under his breath as he left.

The rest of the night, Park Yoochun was all he could think about. He hardly even noticed when he was dragged over to the area where they were taking photos; they wanted to take a photo of their music class.

“Is everyone here?” he heard someone say.

“Yoochun isn’t here!” someone else said.

“I’ll go look for hi-.” Jaejoong offered.

“I’ll get him” Junsu spoke over him and left the area to look for him before anyone could say anything else. ‘It wouldn’t have been music if Yoochun wasn’t there. He has to be in the picture.’ He looked on the dance floor, at the tables and then he went outside, he looked through the groups of people when he finally saw him a distance away sitting down with 2 other people but it was too dark to make out the expressions on their faces. It wasn’t long until he noticed Yoochun was looking at him, the other two might have been as well, but he didn’t take any notice of them, they weren’t important, Yoochun was important.

“They’re taking a Music photo.” He stated simply.

“Oh! cool!” he jumped up and ran over to him as Junsu waved him over and held out his hand for Yoochun to take but Yoochun just walked past.

“Okay, don’t take my hand then.”

“What? Oh!” Yoochun looked at Junsu for a moment, who was now looking ahead dragging him to the photo with Yoochun running along beside him.

He didn’t know why, but in the small moment of time he felt his heart beat faster again (although he blamed it on the running) and a lump gathered in his throat as butterflies did the same in his stomach.

Everyone cheered when he returned with Yoochun and he smiled because obviously he wasn’t the only one to think that Music wouldn’t have been the same without him. He went back to his place and watched as Yoochun crouched down at the front with three others. The camera flashed before he realised it but they took another one just for luck.

For an unknown reason, even to himself, he practically ran from the photo, again trying to make distance between him and Yoochun, he just felt like he would say or do something stupid. It was all just too confusing, what if he did or said something that would then lead him on? He didn’t want Yoochun to get the wrong impression but then again, he didn’t want to say something that would hurt him. So he found it best to keep his distance, and that’s what he did for the rest of the night.

When leaving time came, he took a different coach to Yoochun and just sat in his seat staring aimlessly out the window trying to figure things out in his head.

Since his last serious boyfriend - about 2 years ago -, he only had one relationship where hardly anything happened and then a friend with benefits that became too clingy, since then he’d only got off with random people he’d met in clubs and wouldn’t meet again.

He’d met Yoochun just before the end of his relationship, they weren’t really all that close to begin with but gradually they got to know each other better. At first, they came to know each other through other people and they didn’t really talk much on their own, but eventually, Junsu found that he hung out with Yoochun on his own more than any other person. Yoochun was bright and bubbly, he laughed at all his lame jokes and comments and he had a smile that could make Junsu do whatever the hell he wanted.

Junsu hadn’t felt this kind of connection with someone since the beginning of his last major relationship, they had also started out as friends before they became something more serious, but that didn’t go so great in the end and their friendship was ruined because of it. He didn’t want that to happen with Yoochun, damn it!

Before he knew it, he was being shoved in the shoulder by one of his friends saying that they had arrived in town. He got off the coach and talked to his friends before he heard a familiar voice calling his name. He saw Yoochun walking towards him and his stomach sank.

“Hey, erm… can we just… forget about whatever it was that you heard?”

“Yeah, sure.” He found himself nodding before what he had said had even sunk in. It actually sunk in when he had Yoochun in his arms giving him a hug. ‘He still wants to b my friend’ he thought, and his grip tightened, bringing Yoochun closer to him. They parted and stood in a circle with a few other friends before Junsu realised, “Yoochun, don’t you have an exam tomorrow morning?”

“Yeah, I was just switching coaches.”

Junsu laughed and opened his arms up one more time for a hug from Yoochun before everyone else did the same and he watched him get on the coach. He smiled as he watched him climb the steps and take a seat in the coach and didn’t even turn away when the coach had driven off. He only turned when he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned to see an irritated Jaejoong.

“You’re an idiot”

“What are you-”

Jaejoong thrust his phone in Junsu’s face revealing a text that he had just received from Yoochun.

“So tonight was a fail, but I think it will be alright. It’s okay that he isn’t interested, I’d rather just have him as a friend than have something awkward between us. Enjoy the rest of your night :) xx”

The silence that was followed was…thick. Jaejoong couldn’t tell what was going on through Junsu’s head but he sure as hell wanted to find out.

Junsu turned away from the screen and tried to walk past Jaeojoong to follow the others.

“Hey, where do you think you’re going?” Jaejoong demanded, grabbing his arm tightly.

“To have fun with the others.” He said simply with a smile.

“What about Yoochun?”

“He’s gone, didn’t you say bye? He’s got an exam tomorrow morning.”

“You know damn well that’s not what I’m talking about.” Jaejoong’s grip tightened on Junsu’s arm, his lips set tightly and his eyes burning with a fire that could burn down a forest.

“What do you want from me?” Junsu asked, “we’re all going different directions in a few months anyway, what would be the point in starting anything or getting off with each other just to have the last few months be awkward?” Junsu jerked his arm away from Jaejoong’s tight grip.

“Yoochun isn’t the kind of person to want to just get off with someone, and you should know that! You’ve been one of his closest friends for the last two years!”

“I know he isn’t, but I am. I can’t have a serious relationship. Not anymore. Not after last time.”

“Yoochun isn’t going to cheat on you.”

“But still, in a few months, we’re going different ends of the country. What if, in that time, I actually fall for him? Hard. It would hurt so much more than it does just thinking about it.”

“I don’t know what to say to you. fortunately, Yoochun still wants to be your friend even if you are a coward, so just, don’t go and start acting all awkward around him. Keep your friendship with him, or so help me…”

Jaejoong looked at Junsu, his eyes averted downwards and his shoulders slouched. Jaejoong sighed.

“look, come on, let’s go. Yoochun wished us a good night, so we better have some stories to tell him about it tomorrow.” Jaejoong patted Junsu on his back and lead him towards the town centre where they had a very good night indeed, if slightly lacking in the energy that Yoochun would have provided.

At some point in the evening, when pretty much everyone around him was too drunk to know anything that was going on, him also being too drunk to really think very clearly, he took out his phone and started to write a text.

Yoochun! You’re so lame! Why did you have to have an exam tomorrow morning?! Tonight would have been so much better if you were here~. Good luck! Miss you~ I love you~ xx

He nearly pressed send, when someone thrust a drink in his face and he forgot about the text instantly, he shut his phone and the message was deleted.

Maybe it was for the best. He might have regretted it the next day…
