Hankyung wished he hadn't come back. Wished he hadn't opened the door. He didn’t cry or scream at Heechul. He didn’t do anything but close his eyes and sigh in resignation. “Sorry for interrupting,” he apologized, turning away from the sight before him and leaving the dorm as quickly as possible. He ignored Heechul’s cries to come back as the door closed shut and he stood in the hallway waiting for the elevator to arrive.
“Stupid.” He scolded himself. “How could I have been so stupid?”
Hankyung continued to stare at the elevator doors when Heechul stumbled into the hallway, frantically trying to pull his jeans on as he threw himself at the Chinese man. Hankyung mentally chastised himself for not thinking to take the stairs. If he really wanted to get away that quickly, shouldn’t he have gone for the stairs instead of waiting for the elevator that he knew would take forever to arrive?
Maybe you wanted Heechul to catch you. He told the voice in his head to shut up.
Heechul buried his face in Hankyung’s jacket, “This is the first t-“ Heechul paused, knowing that that was a lie. This wasn’t the first time he’d been caught, and trying to play it off as a first offense would not help him any.
“I don’t know what I was think-“ He stopped again, feigning ignorance would do no good. Kim Heechul was not scatter-brained.
“I love y-“ No, that wasn’t right either.
“I’m sorry.” He truly was sorry, just like he was sorry all the other times.
Aren’t you tired of hearing his pretty, little lies? The voice asked again.
He stood as still as a stone, neither eyes or arms acknowledged the smaller man clinging to him; his ears ignored the excuses the other was giving him.
Heechul held on tighter as he heard the elevator doors slide open, “I’m sorry,” he repeated hoping his apology would get through to the other man.
Sorry for what? Sorry for what he did, or sorry that he was caught? AGAIN. He closed his eyes but opened them again when all he could picture was Heechul in bed, just moments before. In bed with someone else, when he promised he would never do it again.
No more, Hankyung thought to himself, I can’t go through this again. This incident was just one time too many.
Heechul’s heart swelled with hope when he felt Hankyung place his hands around him. He sighed relieved, “Hannie I-“
Hankyung interrupted him, using his hands in an attempt to move him gently to the side. “Heechul, let go of me.” His voice wasn’t cold but it wasn’t warm either. Hankyung’s lack of emotion took Heechul aback and the hope he’d felt died as the Chinese man walked past him and the elevator doors closed, separating the two men.
Sinking to his knees, Heechul stared pitifully at the elevator doors, silently hoping that they’d open again and Hankyung would scoop him up in his arms and tell him that everything was okay; that he was forgiven.
But things don’t work out that way.
Not anymore.
