“Kui Xian, I…” Zhou Mi trailed off.
“Huh?” Kyuhyun replied on the other line.
“Never mind, have a safe trip back. Call me when you land in Korea okay?”
“Haha, Okay. Bye Mi!”
Zhou Mi snapped his phone shut and stared out the window, wondering when he’d gather the courage to say those three simple words.
-
For two years, it was the same conversation. The same unspoken words, the same reply and the same wish for a safe trip. Zhou Mi was content with the routine; he was content with his unspoken feelings.
-
“I love you.”
“What?” The older man balked.
“I love you.”
-
“Kui Xian? Why are you calling so late?” Zhou Mi mumbled into the phone as he glanced at the clock, “Or early I should say.” He flopped onto his pillow, still half-asleep.
“Would you hate me if I was gay?” Kyuhyun’s voice was low and confused and it woke Zhou Mi up completely.
“No!!! Of course not. Why would I hate you? I could never hate you Kui Xian, no matter what you do or who you love.” Zhou Mi replied.
He heard Kyuhyun sigh in relief. “Good, because if I lost you, I don’t know what I’d do with myself.”
Zhou Mi sat up, “Why would you lose me? You’re so silly.” Maybe I should tell him now. Zhou Mi thought to himself.
“Kui Xian, I-”
“I told Sungmin-hyung I loved him and he said he isn’t sure about how he feels and that he’ll get back to me, but he doesn’t want me to feel bad it’s just that he’s not sure, he said that he sort of feels the same way but he wants to make sure and-”
Zhou Mi’s arm flopped onto his lap while Kyuhyun chattered away on the phone.
Regret and hurt consumed Zhou Mi as he silently cried.

Knowing that Kyuhyun and Sungmin were together was one thing, having to be around the pair of them was another. Zhou Mi normally looked forward to SJ-M promotions, but with the addition of Sungmin and Eunhyuk, he wanted it to be over.
From the balcony, he could see Kyuhyun and Sungmin nestled on the couch. Kyuhyun’s mouth was moving and Sungmin was nodding along every few minutes.
He’s probably translating the show into Korean, Zhou Mi smiled bitterly, like I used to do for him.
“If your heart is the strongest muscle in your body, why does it break so easily?” Zhou Mi mused over his glass of wine.
