Wow!
Saw Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest last night. For those who don't want to know I won't say anything but since I won't get round to commenting on it over the weekend:
Firstly, the not-so-spoily-spoilers for people who want to know how sexy Mr Depp was without finding out the end of the film.
Captain Jack was as funny and sexy as ever - I almost cry when I see him run! Depp has so much fun with the character an you can see it in every scene. I expected to see him a bit more though. I'd have liked it much better if they devoted less screen time to the big, watery battle scenes, which do get kind of samey after a while.
The Orlando fans will appreciate his shirtlessness, if not the reason for it...
The special effects, costumes and make-up were excellent - as expected. Hans Zimmer took over the score and stayed with the main themes so it sounds pretty much like the first score, although with some interesting organ music added and a bit of tribal music for the island scenes.
Bill Nighy! What a guy! At first you could barely recognise him under the make-up but then you could see his distinctive stamp on the character. And I can't resist commenting on Davy Jones' magnificent organ...
For anyone who has seen the film or really doesn't mind knowing what happens, here are the big spoilers.
And by big I mean really spoily spoilers.
And by really spoily I mean don't say I didn't warn you!

Last chance to turn back!!

I've been wanting to say this since last night but have had nobody to vent to:
BARBOSSA?!! Either I am very dense to not see it coming or that was one hell of a twist! The idea of the crew sailing off with Barbossa as captain to search for Jack - who we last seee charging sword-first into the mouth of the Kraken - is very interesting. What surprised me most though was that the film had such a big cliffhanger!
I knew the 2nd and 3rd films were being filmed back to back but I didn't know they were going to follow on like that! Now we have to wait ages to get a conclusion.
Tom Hollander was very good as the cool, calculating bastard Lord Beckett. And the surprise nomination for Git of the Year goes to former Commodore Norrington, who sells everyone out to regain his comission. There's another cliffhanger for us...Mind you, I did love Norrington's Tortuga brawl scene - great fun!
And Elizabeth? I didn't know she could be so ruthless. It will be interesting to see how the character is developed in the next film. How will she cope with the guilt of sending Jack to his death? When will Will confront her about her passionate kiss with Jack? I have to say I'm not a fan of Keira and don't think she's a particularly good actress, but she managed to play the seductress pretty well. In fact, her scenes with Jack had plenty of chemistry. Whereas the romance between Will and Elizabeth seems to be as damp as the Flying Dutchman's poop deck.
I'll have more to say when everyone else has seen it to and we can discuss in detail.
In other news, my new job is much busier now and my bedroom is a bed and a few items of furniture away from being redecorated.
