Day 11 - Kill Me Now

Nov 11, 2004 10:28

First, I'd like to say thank you to all the Veterans out there. I appreciate everything you've done for this country. Thank you for my freedom.

This freedom allows me to say whatever I want. And today, I'm saying - please make it all stop!

It wasn't so bad yesterday. I got 2000+ words written. You would think I'd be happy because 1) to reach 50K I have to write 1667 a day - so I exceeded my quota for yesterday and 2) I'm about 5500 words over where I have to be to hit 50K by the end of the month. So you would think things are good, right?

Wrong!

I sat there for eight hours yesterday. Eight hours! In those eight hours, I typed 2000 words. That's 250 words an hour. Four words a minute! That's pathetic. I don't have eight hours every day to type 2000 words. I was doing 2000 words in less than an hour the first week!

Oh, this is not good. I'm to the point now where I'm saying, "I don't know if I can do this." My internal editor is going berserker, clawing to get at what I've already written. It's a constant struggle not to edit, just to write. And now my main female character is imprisoned, she thinks her (non) love interest is dead, and they've still only ever kissed.

Well, I guess I'll just keep plodding along. If we get to the end of week three and it's not looking good, I can always use the cheap word padding techniques that everyone else is going on about.

So here is the excerpt for today; in the loverly scene where they are supposed to hook up but instead have all the passion of a wet washcloth:

She had stopped crying at this point but he made no move to release her. It occurred to her that she would be staying with him in a cabin in the woods for the night, away from all civilization and everything that was real to her. This could potentially be extremely dangerous, considering the way she was beginning to feel about him.

Frightened by her feelings, she pulled back and he released her. They stood there, close but no longer embracing, and Aimee felt she needed to speak.

"I'm sorry about that." She bit her bottom lip. "I'm sorry I got all emotional."

"Don't worry about it." His voice sounded gruff. He opened his mouth as if to say something else, but quickly closed it.

There was an uncomfortable silence in which Aimee tried to think of something else to say. 'Hold me again,' seemed entirely inappropriate, but it was the only thing that was currently going through her mind.
