Today I SO wanted to mutter a quiet, poisonous "ew" to the VP when he told me I had to be a phone solicitor AGAIN tomorrow. Not only do I have to perform a task that I am philosophically opposed to, I HAVE TO CALL THE SAME PEOPLE OVER AGAIN! That's right, I have to redial those who successfully eluded me yesterday as a result of their fortunately being "away from their desk." Ok, how many times have you answered the phone to a solicitor who asked for you and replied "oh I'm sorry, she's not here" to just get off the phone? I, for one, do it all the time. Having to do this for my boss has not increased any feelings of compassion for phone solicitors, but rather I have reclassified them from the category of "those with crappy jobs" to "those who are blackmailed/have to steal food to survive/are in prison." There obviously must be desperate circumstances if a person does this for a living.
