On May 17th, while biking through the hills of Lake Como in Italy, Ben Guzinski fell off his rented bicycle, dislocating and breaking his shoulder. No car was involved just a world-class cyclist unable to navigate the steep hills of Lago di Como. He was rushed to a hospital there and stayed there for 3 days until yesterday. The expertly efficient travel insurance company had his father flown there and he accompanied him back to Canada on Sunday. He's now back home in bandages waiting to see if and when they will operate on him.

The Italians were unbelievably nice despite the language barrier. The nurses taught me some Italian while I taught them some English. Everyone treated me like a foreign attraction, dropping by and asking me what happened and when I was going to be going home.
Porter was amazing. He kept me company, took care of contacting the folks, cheering me up, and morbidly poking fun at my situation. I will be forever grateful to him. Once everything was sorted out, he set out on his own for the rest of the journey. I hope he has a blast.
There was also a doctor there who spoke French. Thank God for builingualism or trilingualism, and so on. He explained the situation to me and visited me in the hospital that I was transferred to after the accident. His name is Giuseppe Gaiani. I'm honestly contemplating naming my future son Giuseppe Guzinski. It has a nice ring to it, don't you think?
Now I'm recuperating at home. I've got an appointment at the hospital tmrw and I'll find out how they want to proceed.
I will write about my trip soon, but I've spoiled the ending with this post :)
