Genesis of a European Backpacker

Apr 22, 2006 01:47

This is my last entry from home sweet home. Just had the best shower I'm going to have for the next little while. Will treasure it.

I spent the last few hours packing, unpacking, and packing again. There's just a little room remaining. Total weight: 20-25 lbs.

I spoke with Porter, travelling companion, and his backpack inventory suggests that he's got double the amount of clothes that I've got and his backpack is filled to the brim. Don't know how he managed that.

The itinerary as it stands right now: London - Paris - Nice - Cinque Terre - Florence - Rome - Venice - Milan - Interlaken - Munich - Prague - Berlin - Amsterdam - Frankfurt. Let's see how much of it remains intact.

As of right now, the VIA Rail blockade that was in place today has been lifted. Several Native Canadians blocked train travel today near Kingston to protest the use of land that they believe they own for a housing development. Chartered buses replaced the trains between Montreal and Toronto. Luckily, the trains will be back in service tomorrow morning.

It's a little late and so I must retire to my quarters. My next entry will originate from the other side of the Atlantic!

I want to wish everyone a great month of May and may the freedom you know have taste really sweet.
