Yesterday I was walking home from campus, listening to my iPod and reading a book (Mary Barton by Elizabeth Gaskell, FYI). I was pretty into my book, and my iPod was up fairly loud--so basically I was pretty well cut off from the world. But as I'm walking along, I become aware of someone shouting "hey! Hey! HEY!". So I pull out my earbuds, and look around, and there's this guy in his car, parked in the middle of the street, hanging out the window, yelling at me.
So, me being the friendly person that I am, replied, "um, yeah?" And he shouts "what's your name?"
"um, Tiffany"
He asked a random question but I can't remember what it was. And then I got this gem:
"So, Tiffany, do you have a boyfriend?"
"yes" (I totally lied)
This seems to give him pause for a moment. As he is silent, and I'm looking at him with a "what is going on..." look on my face, the car behind him apparently gets tired of waiting for this crazy person stopped in the middle of the street and pulls around his car. This doesn't seem to bother him, because he has finally come up with a response.
"Oh. Can I be your friend?"
"um, I suppose." Facebook is slowly training me to never turn down a friend request.
"Can I call you sometime?"
"Um, I really don't think so". Common sense finally kicked in a bit, as the whole surreal factor wore off.
"Ok".
He rolls up his window, and drives off.
It was very strange. Very strange indeed. And I'm not too mature to confess that I kept looking behind me as I walked home to be sure that he didn't drive back and follow me to see where I lived!
This brings my total of weird guys whistling/shouting at me from cars up to 4. Maybe 5. I don't actually remember. I should keep better records. :)
crazy people,
life
