So, life is just kind of happening. Not too bad, nothing extraordinary, just life. :) We got our heating bill yesterday, and for the month of December, when two of the three housemates were gone for 2 weeks (yea Christmas break!), our heating bill was triple! Aaack! Apparently the third roommate just didn't realize how the house isn't really insulated that well, and was just cold, and first time out of the house, didn't realize how expensive it would be to turn the heat up to 73 degrees for two weeks. But still--our heating bill is usually about $25, and this time it's nearly $60 a person. I nearly had a heart attack. But oh well--nothing we can do about it now, so I'll just be grateful that my scholarship check is coming through. :)
And then, guess what happened to me for the first time in about 2 years (yes, I'm horribly lame): I got asked out on a blind date. :) My family is friends with this other family, and for some reason I hadn't met their son who is about my age (a couple years older, I think), so when our family got back in touch at Christmas, he mentioned that it'd be fun (since we go to the same college) to meet up. And last night he called me up and so we have a double blind date on Saturday for a "game night." Apparently he's setting his best friend up with a girl he (my "date") knows, so they're on a blind date as well. Which is always a bit more comfortable. :) Anyways, I'm looking forward to it, although I'm a bit nervous.... Cross your fingers for me that it won't be too awkward!
And now for the meme I stole from
napalm_isis Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you and am thankful you are in my life.
1. I am the oldest of 7 kids; until the youngest was born 2 years ago, we were the Brady Bunch: 3 girls, 3 boys. Now there's 4 boys and 3 girls. But the same Mom and Dad :)
2. I am innately contrary. If something is really popular and I haven't yet read/seen/heard it, I'll avoid it simply because it's popular. Like Wicked the musical--I didn't start listening to it until the summer of 2005 because I'd heard it was so popular. Now I'm on the bandwagon, but I avoided it for a long time until a friend made me listen to it without telling me it was Wicked.
3. I've worn glasses since I was in second grade. My eyes are so bad that anything more than 8 inches from my face is blurry. I wanted contacts, but Mom said I had to pay for them, but insurance will pay for glasses, so I still wear glasses
4. I cut my hair in cycles: I'll cut it short, then let it grow really long for a while, and then cut it short (to about my chin). But it was cut to the shortest length it's ever been over this last Christmas break: midway between my chin and my ears. I didn't much like it at first, but I've gotten used to it (and it's grown a little bit) and now I really like it.
5. I got (and used) my first scarf ever last December. It's a royal blue/purple color, and I love it. :)
6. I used to be a huge Star Wars geek: bought every book as it came out, owned all the movies, knew all the trivia, everything. And then the New Jedi Order series happened (which tried to make the books more "realistic" which is dumb, 'cause their readership isn't reading for realism (we're okay if no main character ever dies), and they aren't going to attract new readers by making it more "real"), and then Revenge of the Sith happened (with that lovely "I HATE YOU!" line), and the rest of the books just kept getting worse and worse, and basically I was disillusioned. I still love the Original Trilogy (Han, Luke, and Leia FTW), but I don't really consider myself a huge Star Wars fan anymore. :( (Although I still ship Han/Leia).
7. I love to play showtunes on the piano, and sing along. It's a great way for me to de-stress. I keep hoping to be a soprano, although I think I'm pretty solidly a mezzo-soprano. Every once in a while I can hit that high note though. :)
8. My favorite Disney princess is Sleeping Beauty, even though she doesn't really have a character in the movie. She comes, she sings, she sleeps. But she's my favorite. :)
9. I worked at Hoover Dam one summer with my best friend, and lived with her family. That was quite an experience, living with a whole new family. It was good, but odd.
10. I have never had (and still don't have) a cell phone.
11. When my dad was teaching me to drive, it was my second lesson and he took my little brother (who was about 4 or so?) with us. It was a stick shift, so I was doing a lot of really choppy starts, and such, and so at the end, when my dad asked my brother if he was ready to go home, he said "Yes! But you drive--don't let Tiff drive!" He's kind of kept that attitude ever since, especially since I got my license without actually taking the road test. We moved from one state to another, and I was 3 months away from turning 18, and had my permit, so the lady at the DMV just kind of gave me my license. :)
12. I tend to have a weakness for really cheesy old shows where the focus is on the relationship between the two main characters: Lois & Clark, Remington Steele, Hart to Hart, etc. I love them, dunno why. :)
13. The only scar I have (that I remember getting) is a scar on the inside of my middle finger. I cut my finger on a chili can, when the can opener didn't get the top off quite completely, so I grabbed the two (sharp) sides and pulled, and voila, sliced my finger. There is a small scar on my bottom lip that I have no idea where it came from.
14. When I'm at home, I'm a pretty good cook. At college, I can ruin Pasta-roni and frosting.
15. I got my name because "Mom thought it was pretty." However, when I was born, there was a dog living next door with the name "Tiffany" and so there's a bit of a joke that I was named after the dog, although Mom and Dad are quick to point out that a.) I wasn't named after that dog and b.) she was a really friendly dog. I actually have a Christmas card from the dog... :)
16. I really love Hot Fries. And Necco Conversation Hearts. Not together, but still. :)
17. I check my email almost constantly. Like, an insane amount of times per day.
18. I have no problem sightseeing on my own. I almost prefer it. I went to New York for 5 days and toured the city completely on my own. I had a great time; a hippie lady in central park told me I had a "beautiful smile." When I did an internship in DC, I prefered to do all my touristy stuff on my own, including going to the theatre and things. However, the thought of going abroad (which in my head means "across the Atlantic Ocean") on my own terrifies me.
19. I hate peanuts (actually nuts of all types), but I like peanut butter. I hate seafood, but like tuna fish sandwiches.
20. I once did a 27 hour road trip (from college), overnight, in order to see a play. The play wasn't worth it, but the main star of it was. :) Bonus points being that the next day, we (it was me and a roommate) drove another 4 or 5 hours up to where my family was living, so that I could meet my new baby brother, who had been born about a week before.
21. I sometimes wish that the dresses from the 18th or 19th centuries were still okay to wear today. I love the floor length dresses, with the somewhat wide hips. Dunno why. :)
22. I hate skirts and dresses with a burning passion. If it were up to me, it would be jeans all the time (which it mostly is now, actually).
23. I put myself to sleep by making up stories about my favorite characters, especially pairings that no one has written fanfic for... :) (I so have a list of characters and pairings--I tend to like these tiny tiny tiny fandoms, or nonexistent ones, simply 'cause I love "happily ever after" or what happens after the happily ever after type fics)
24. I've bitten my nails ever since I was little. I've stopped a couple times, but I always go back to biting them eventually. It's not a nervous habit (though it can be), it's generally just because I'm bored and need something to keep my hands occupied.
25. Through library summer reading contests, I've won 2 boomboxes/cd players, multiple gift certificates to Barnes & Noble and Borders, movie tickets, and a "supersac" lovesac. Those are the only things I've ever won. (not that I'm complaining!)
Tag: whoever wants it. :)
