Wow, life just happened

Well, last weekend (2 weekends ago) was one of the most eventful weekends in recent memory. I was productive on Saturday, up to and including cleaning the house. I even went up and did a lot of research for my "Frankenstein" group project (not the paper/project, but just a group project). Then, due to a not so interesting series of circumstances but a series I don't know enough about to relate here, my roommate ended up on the other half of this double blind date with me. So it was me and my roommate, and 2 guys we didn't know, although I knew the parents of one guy.  We just played games all night, including a rather roundabout "Truth or Dare" Jenga, where we replaced all the naughty/stupid stuff with truth questions. It was actually a lot of fun--more like hanging out than a date. Even if I did have to sing "Tomorrow" from Annie, it was a really fun night. Apparently all four of us are dorks, which probably greatly contributed to the lack of awkwardness. :)

Then, on Sunday, I found out that my great-aunt passed away. She's been sick for a long time, and while it's still sad, I'm happy that she won't have to deal with all her physical problems anymore. But Mom, and my 14 year old sister, and then my 2 year old brother flew out on Tuesday, which was exciting. :) Though I didn't envy them a 6 hour flight with one of the most active 2 year olds I've ever met. But they picked me up immediately after school on Wednesday, and so I spent the whole weekend with them.  The viewing and the funeral were fine; spent a lot of time wrangling the two year old. :)  It was really good to see them all again, even if the two year old did have his hair cut... :(  We also went and saw Grandma and Grandpa, and I hit the standard bookstores (yea for sheet music--1776 vocal selections FTW!).  My sister and I even took the two year old on a walk down to this old little corner convenience store that sells penny candy (only they're now 2 cents apiece...) that's a pretty good walk away. So the baby is walking around and jumping and running and it was a lot warmer, so all the snow was melting. Ergo, lots of puddles. So as the baby is about to jump into a puddle, my sister and I both yell "no!" Apparently there was terror or something in our voice to make him stop ('cause he doesn't, usually), but for the rest of the walk, whenever he came upon a puddle (which happened quite a lot...) he would stop and point at the puddle and basically be scared of it! It was really cute... :)

So now I'm just trying to get caught up on everything.  I'm pretty well caught up, although I do have to edit a 40 page paper for my editing class, and write an abstract for my Frankenstein paper.  That Frankenstein class is messing with my head. There are two people in the class that just bug me--probably because I feel a bit intimidated. Of course, their air of cavalier arrogance has a bit to do with it as well... But anyways, for some reason, the idea of this paper is really freaking me out. I don't know why; I think I have a fairly good thesis idea (Victor Frankenstein is really a female gothic heroine; Mary Shelley making a statement about how the women weren't educated, yet then given the responsibility for creation, but look what happened when an uneducated Victor (aka woman) creates...I have it all written out somewhere, and I promise it makes a bit more sense). It doesn't tie into film that strongly though, which is a problem.  I may have to rework it so it ties into film (since this is a "Frankenstein in Literature and Film" class).  And for some reason this teacher intimidates me as well; leftover feelings of inadequacy from my Poe class with him. Curses. I just want it to go away.  Although I did get back a different paper for the Frankenstein class, and the teacher's main comment was "This was FUN to read."  It made me laugh, and confused me a bit--is this a good thing in a scholarly paper? :D

And y'all should be proud of me: I bought my first thingy/whatever of eyeliner the other day.  Yea for me trying to be all girly. *sheepish grin*

I also emailed the guy who gave me a job last summer, basically asking him to hire me again.  It was really nerve-wracking, since I'm an English major, and he runs a biology/science/engineering lab.  And I think I finished anything and everything they could possibly have for me to do, but it doesn't hurt to ask if they'd like to rehire me, does it?  (especially in this economy--and it was a $10 an hour job...)

And I got my taxes all done!  I get $5 back from one state, owe another state $46, but get $500 back from the feds. Booyah! (wow, that was from the 90s....)  That was exciting. :)

And, just to wrap up this absurdly long rambling post, did you know that Cary Grant did indeed make a bad movie?  Kiss Them For Me.  Horrible.  Just, ick.  Not even Cary could save it....  But the Kevin Kline/Jennifer Garner Broadway production of Cyrano, that they filmed and aired on PBS, was really good.  Well, Kevin Kline was fantastic.  Jennifer Garner....not so much.  But Kevin Kline makes up for a lot. :)
