Masaharu Fukuyama to play the title role in the taiga drama, " Legend of Ryoma "

Singer/Actor Masaharu Fukuyama will be playing the title role of Sakamoto Ryoma, one of the most influential individuals of the bakumatsu period (1853 - 1858ish, IIRC). If you don't know who Fukuyama is, he's the guy from Galieo and does all those Panasonic commercials. If you don't know who Sakamoto Ryoma is, he's the gun toting samurai of the bakumatsu period that fought against the shogunate.
Based off of the recollections of the Mitsubishi Zaibatsu founder, Iwazaki Yatarou, on the life of Sakamoto Ryoma, the 2010 NHK Taiga (premiering January 3rd, 2010) will star the 40 year old. This is the first NHK drama lead role that the approaching 40 year old is staring in, " I'm going to submerge myself in it, I'm going to get dirty just like any young actor. " He said.
