Lame

Went to campus today with a friend to donate blood. I thought my iron count would be too low but I figured I'd give it a shot. Iron was fine, ink is not. I didn't realize the restriction time on donating after getting a tattoo was 1 year. Apparently tattoo parlors aren't FDA regulated and are thus, risky. I'm sorry but do they screen the blood or ( Read more... )

And they told me I couldn't give blood because I've had butt sex. Actually, once in the UC, a lady asked me "Do you want to give blood?" The smile across her face was so putrid and fake. I screamed from across the way. "Nope. Sorry. Can't. I've had buttsex!"

Her face was priceless.

Some states are thinking of allowing gays to give blood, but only if they haven't had sex for SEVEN YEARS.

I actually couldn't donate blood for a while because a boy I dated previously had slept with a guy. They've lowered the time restraint on that to 6 months or something.

I don't think I'll ever understand this shit. Either they do or they do not test the damn blood and make sure its safe to put into people's bodies. If they do then tattoos and buttsex and other shit shouldn't be as big of a concern as they make it out to be. I could lie and they'd never know. I don't understand at all.

Well, they test the blood by pooling about 1000 donation samples. If there's a positive screening, then they break the 1000 into 100. They then will narrow that down until it's 10, and then test individually within that 10 until they find the person with the positive screening.

I learned that in my freshman year j-term stats class. The argument is that if they eliminate fags and tattoo freaks from the pool (I'm taking creative license here to make the point that it's STUPID), then they won't have to do so many expensive tests.

Now, I don't have AIDS. I'm smart enough to use protection. I also haven't had sex in nearly 3 years. But they still don't want me giving blood.

Bastards.

What do you mean pool donation samples?

I always thought that all the blood was tested. 100% of the blood, 100% checked for 100% everything...

they check the blood by taking a sample of your donation. it's like taking a blood draw from you to check if you have AIDS.

So do they check all of the blood or not? Because if they do... how is banning the gays and tattoo freaks gonna save them money on testing...?
