Am I the only person who doesn't feel any -guilt- for all the atrocities that have occurred in the past? I -hate- that horrible disgusting shitty things have happened to people but I don't see any point in feeling bad for what my ancestors did. I never owned/transported/sold slaves. I never killed or beat anyone (never even been in a fight). I never killed anyone for being Christian or Jewish or Muslim or anything else. I have never made someone enter through a back door or refused to hire someone because of their race. The way I see it almost everyone has done something wretched to someone else. I'm not going to apologize for something that was done to people I don't know by people I have never met. YES I feel bad, history is full of atrocities but I wasn't there! Times have changed and still need to change further (like hella), but perpetuating guilt over past actions doesn't seem to be the way to make things any better. It doesn't (to me) promote equality and it won't erase the past.
I can only take responsibility for actions I have participated in and witnessed personally. We should learn from the past not live in it.
Am I the only person who feels like this?
