Its always such a pain to upgrade one's technology. Its designed to be consumed, not be persistent. Worse, it demands you change your lifestyle to match rather than fitting into what you already have.
Recently I signed up with Vodafone for a new 3G internet package. Its 12Gbs for $38AUD, same price as I'm paying now, but twice the usage. What I didn't consider, the one thing I overlooked, was that the modem might not be compatible with my MRBN3000 3G wireless router.
Currently I have my Huawei E220 connected to my MBRN3000 which shares my internet with my PC, laptop, 360 and wireless devices. The LAN also supports my NAS drives. The advantage here is I only need to have the router and modem on to have internet on any one device, and my movies and music is shared with everything on the network.
But with the new Huawei K4511 modem not being supported, I have to run it from my PC, then reconfigure my router to share the internet from my PC via the router to everything else. Problem with this is I need to have the PC running to share the internet with whatever other device I'm using, so I need two devices on, which is wasteful and annoying.
In fact, this set up is what I had BEFORE I had a 3G router. So in fact, to improve my internet, I'm having to go BACKWARDS.
So, i can:
* cancel my Vodafone and stick with my original rubbish internet which works with my network,
* cancel my old internet, keep my new one and hope they upgrade the drivers for my MBRN3000 to support my new modem,
* or cancel both and re-sign up for the PockeWifi 2 modem (also not compatible with my MBRN3000), which has a built in wifi hub and keep my MBRN3000 on LAN mode, but this also needs one device to be running.
I will think about this through today and make a decision tonight. I have under 20 days to cancel my Vodafone account.
Damn technology! Just work! Damnit!
