A Wizard of Mars Recap

Mar 28, 2010 02:18

So, I just finished A Wizard of Mars in one seriously nonstop sitting, and as promised, have chronicled my reactions. I tried to keep them organized, but kind of lost the thread somewhere around chapter 3, so forgive me for a lot of squeeing, capslock, and lulzing.

I also did google earth screencaps of all the places that they visited (or at least ( Read more... )

WANT.

Also, I didn't know the book was out already. I really, really should get on that.

It is, umm, not past the actual release date yet. But the Barnes & Noble near my house just got their shipment in yesterday, and I know that Amazon is shipping the books at this moment. I'd check around your local bookstores to see if they have it in stock. (Barnes & Noble is a likely bet. I checked the Borders near my house yesterday too, cause it was less expensive, but they hadn't been shipped yet.)

The lady at my B&N ordered it from their warehouse even though it's not technically released out because the release date isn't in red omg like crazy popular books would be. So I got mine on Friday and finished it Saturday morning ;) Admittedly in two sittings.

I so agree with everything you said there omg. In the beginning I was calling my sister to share funny quotes with her, but then I had to stop because she's going to read it sometime and I didn't want to spoil her.

This book was fabulous. Everything was fabulous! The boyfriend thing at the end made me squee so much. Also, I adore Mamvish (if adore is the proper word something that big) and the "You are my friend!" response to tomatoes. Adorable!!

I probably should have finished it in two sittings. But considering it was the middle of the weekend, I did not care.

My jaw literally dropped at the boyfriend part. And then I had to avoid making squeeing out loud, so I put my hands over my mouth, cause by then it was about... midnight-ish? (BUG OMG, IT IS LEGIT CANON NOW)

I am not sure if I love Mamvish or Irina more. I was expecting Mamvish a little, though, so Irina wowed me a little bit more. (THEY ARE BOTH PRETTY EQUALLY BADASS THOUGH JUST SAYIN'.)

Irina was awesome too, but Mamvish was just cute.

I was thinking, when the boyfriend thing happened, that back when Nita and Kit first started working together and she looked up something about "permanent partnership" and she thought something like "oh, come on, it's not like they're gonna make you marry him!" Heh.

I really need to reread the most recent...5 books. I know the first four practically by heart and I think I've only read the rest maybe twice? Except of course Mars, just once there. So far :D

Mamvish was adorable. (TOMATOES!)

when Nita and Kit first started working together and she looked up something about "permanent partnership" and she thought something like "oh, come on, it's not like they're gonna make you marry him!"

I think that was the moment where I started shipping them, to be quite honest. My reaction was something to the point of, "Well, you don't have to marry him, but you can. : DDD" (I MEAN, Y'KNOW, NOT THAT THEY NEED TO GET MARRIED. JUST MAYBE MAKE OUT A LITTLE. AND BE BFFS AND AWESOME TOGETHER.)

I know I've read W@W about four times through, and the others a fair number of times. There is that urge at the back of my brain to hunt down the people currently borrowing my books and get them back so I can reread, however.

You lend out your books? *horrified look* The only person I lend my books to is my sister, because I see her a couple times a year and can take them back. Plus we talk every day and I can pester her about them if I want to. Plus I know she treats her books about how I treat mine. I don't trust other people with my books, especially not books I love. If I really want someone to read something that much, I'll buy them their own copy.

Anyway :) I thought Nita/Kit was pretty much the canon pairing from the beginning, although I know not everyone agrees. I'm not much of a 'shipper' anyway (I tend to ship canon, barring extraordinary circumstances).

Haha, yes, I do. It is part of my larger conspiracy to get everybody I know to read them! Because, well, I understand that buying nine books is rather expensive, and being the broke college student that I am, I cannot spread the joy of books to the world. (Mostly I just point them in the direction of the local library, however. My books only get lent to people I trust.)

I've thought it was pretty obvious since about High Wizardry (though Deep Wizardry had a lot of shipping pings, certainly.) But then I tend to ship a lot.

I was kidding, of course, but at the same time the last time I lent out a book to someone other than my sister I never got it back and eventually just bought a new copy. And it's not like I'm good at returning lent books either - I have a book a friend lent me about two years ago that I haven't read yet. But I know it's hers and I'll read it and return it eventually; the harder ones are the two books the guy whose last name I don't know lent me and he moved and I never see him anymore. I didn't mean to keep them and I really want to give those back to him (he has notes all over them) but I don't really have any way to do it.

So it's not like I really blame other people, since I'm no better, I just don't trust them :)

Yeah, HW made it pretty clear to everyone except them, apparently.

I was totally caught by surprise... Totally thought they'd always be platonic friends. I guess I still think of Kit as a little boy? Awww.
