Bye, bye summer.

Yesterday we had a national holiday. We celebrated the events that turned Portugal into a republic. It used to be a sad day for me when I was litle because I wanted very much to have kings and princes in my country just like Spain or England. Silly me!

I was going to use the day off to edit my photos and to write a bit, but it was such a glorious day outside that I didn't want to spend it in front of the computer.
I challenged Highlander for one last swim. Autumn is ad portas... the heat won't last forever. Off we went. In this time of the year, with no traffic at all, we noticed that the beach is less than ten minutes from our house. YAY! If only I visited it more than 3 times a year...

The emerald water was calm as a mirror and icy cold, but you know me... 15 minutes of underwater fun! My fingernails got purple and my toes lost part of their sensibility but Highlander was warm as always. It's wonderful to hug him in the water. I end up chasing him for more hugs and he runs from me calling me something that I can translate as "sticky".
Hundreds of seagulls flew over us when we played. I've never seen nothing like that. I swear the air smelled like fish from their breath! It was very beautiful.

Returning to our towels, we noticed that the sun was already unable to dry us completely so we went for an ice cream before it got too cold to be walking around with wet bathing suits.

I always get nostalgic when the Autumn comes. Don't really know why. It's not the sun leaving (it never leaves us), it's a way of life (that I don't have) that comes to a pause. Unexplainable. It will be back next year, though.

By the way, Bedlamborn, I waited 10 minutes for you... Got lost in the way? ;))
