Yeah, I heard about this. Well, I think it could be good for Julie and some of the actors on TVD currently because the network and Julie are clearly thinking about the future and are wondering if they can extend the series longer without actually extending the current series long past it's expiration date. So, the good thing about about it is that we know the netowrk is fully aware that TVD will be ending soon.
I don't know how I feel about the Originals leaving the show and just walking away. I always figured Klaus would be killed off, preferably by Elena, but it still hasn't sunk in with me yet that he would really gone. I guess he's just become such an interesting facet to the show, even though I think the character himself doesn't really hold a purpose anymore unless they redeem him like they did with Damon in seasons 1 and 2. This is probably the dilemma Julie faces every season because, clearly, Julie and a lot of fans love Joe and Klaus and we just watched an episode where Klaus literally kicked some major ass but it's obvious that the longer Klaus stays a threat and alive in Mystic Falls, the dumber our heroes seem for not being able to defeat him or not even trying to defeat him. So, they have to do something about it and I guess this was Julie's way out of killing Klaus and getting backlash from all of the Original fans. Just give him a show!
What about Bex? I love her so much and she is such a great character to play against the main cast. Plus, Claire Holt is so damn good...I don't even know if I would ever want her truly gone. I always figured that even if Klaus would die, Bex would live on because I feel she is almost a blonde Katherine only with more heart. I would hate to see her go.
My biggest concern, like you said, is Julie. She already has another project green lit for Fox, TVD, and now this? I don't want to lose both Julie and Kevin! Julie is really the voice and balance of this show and it's pratically her vision of this show. If she leaves, it's possible that her vision will be lost, much like when Kevin left Dawson's Creek. Everything that we've been waiting for, all of those payoffs, could be lost. If we lost Julie, it would eerily resemble what happened to the original author of the Vampire Diaries books (except for the fact that LJ Smith was fired and Julie has not been fired from running TVD), and that parellel would be complete if we got a showrunner who decided that this story is about Stefan and Elena and their love and Damon and Elena are just a lustful phase. The triangle would be ruined.
Either way though, it's only a backdoor pilot and it may not even work out so, this all may be for nothing. Still, I feel so conflicted about this and it really does worry me that because this show is only going to be on for at the most 2 more seasons, Julie may be so set on planning another job that she may end up leaving her first job because of that planning and that worried me the most.
Yeah, I think this is a clear sign that Julie is sticking to her guns that TVD will end when she planned it too, and this allows the possibility that we can see some of these characters, and the story continue elsewhere.
I'm glad about this also because I do think Klaus needs to go, so this does that. We know now that Elijah will be on the show now too. I'm thinking honestly that Rebekah will either die (sniff, sniff, noooooo!) or she'll stay on TVD. If she does stay on TVD, that opens the door if they continue through with Rebekah and Matt that both of those actors will then just move over to the spin-off when TVD ends.
Well, we're not losing Julie. Caroline Dries is stepping up as co-exec producer and she's been with the show since s1 and has clearly been working very closely with Julie (including writing with her -- among their episodes together was the brilliant "Ordinary People"). Plus, I think it's pretty clear that they have a VERY detailed direction of where they are going and so as long as that roadmap is followed, and the vision remains clear -- which I think it will -- the show will be OK.
