Oh, you and your Matty-hate! But I'd lose out of Damon and Matt, and Elena and Matt. And that would make me cry. :(
This was my first thought, especially having gone through the quality nose-dive with both Buffy and Supernatural.
My only hope is that they have such a set outline for the last 2 and 1/2 seasons that the group of regular writers they have on the show can steer the ship with supervision. I mean, there are definitely a handful of writers/co-producers who know their stuff, do great work on TVD, and Julie has co-written episodes with a few of them, which I think would help. But yeah, that niggle of worry remains.....
I'd cry too, but with delight! (I doubt he's going anywhere though, pooh)
I'm sure it's possible someone else can do just as good a job, but experience makes me wary (although I have just been reading the new TVD non-L J Smith book trilogy out of curiosity, is it bad of me, given the circumstances of them being taken away from her the way they were, that I think they are a big improvement (all the Stefan/Elena not withstanding)?).
Lordy, knowing the reason they wrested it from her was because they wanted to end it S/E* would make me not want to read it, ugh. Even if I've never read the books and have no desire too.
* Gotta differentiate from the show, I guess, hehehehe.

What I'm hoping is that because they'd sorta still be connected that Julie wouldn't be stepping away completely like KW has. As long as she's still steering and doing some episodes here and there for TVD, I think we'll be good. Also, there's no guarantee that it will be picked up. :shrugs:
I agree with you about being worried about JP's focus being split. I wonder if they will take it in a completely different direction so that there is no chance of similar storylines between the shows. It would also help TVD to tighten up their storytelling because right now with all the characters they're not really doing justice to everyone like Bonnie.
I am still a wee worried, but with the two other eps, I feel better.
Ah, I do think Bonnie's had it a bit light so far this season, but things, I think, are definitely on the upswing for her. And Matt and Jeremy are woven into the main storylines beautifully now in a way they never were before.
Yeah, I heard about this. Well, I think it could be good for Julie and some of the actors on TVD currently because the network and Julie are clearly thinking about the future and are wondering if they can extend the series longer without actually extending the current series long past it's expiration date. So, the good thing about about it is that we know the netowrk is fully aware that TVD will be ending soon
( ... )
Yeah, I think this is a clear sign that Julie is sticking to her guns that TVD will end when she planned it too, and this allows the possibility that we can see some of these characters, and the story continue elsewhere

I'm really not excited about this spin-off... One because yeah, it means Julie Plec will be at best distracted with it and that's no good with Kevin Williamson already gone. Two because I don't give a damn about Klaus or worse Phoebe Tonkin.
So no thank you. As far as I'm concerned the only good thing out of this is TVD focusing on its core characters again. But I think it could've been accomplished without creating a spin-off. *shrugs*
Well, I'm a wee worried about Julie, but I'm actually OK for the most part because Caroline Dries is stepping up as co-exec producer and she's been with the show since s1 and has clearly been working very closely with Julie (including writing with her -- among their episodes together was the brilliant "Ordinary People"). Plus, I think it's pretty clear that they have a VERY detailed direction of where they are going and so as long as that roadmap is followed, and the vision remains clear -- which I think it will -- the show will be OK.
I'm not happy about Phoebe Tonkin, but I do love JoMo and Klaus, even if I love lots others more, and it was just announced that Daniel Gilies (Elijah) will be in it as well.
the only good thing out of this is TVD focusing on its core characters againI read this a lot and I just don't get that complaint honestly. Caroline, Tyler, Matt and Jeremy are more involved in the main stories now than they ever have been and part of that is because of the story drawing them in through Klaus and Rebekah. But
