I could complain about typical Moffat repeating himself, repeating aspects of past episodes, blah blah blah, and it's true. However, he actually got the emotional beats perfectly on target for me and so I'd be a hypocrite if I complained about plot stuff when Rusty sure had his issues in that area, while I praised him for his beautiful character ( Read more... )

I actually really really enjoyed this episode. For the first time in a long time, the characters felt solid. Everything was hitting just right for me. Matt is absolute perfection. I love everything about him and his portrayal of the Doctor and he is just getting better. I still have eh moments in regards to River Song, but I think it's less toward River Song now, and more toward how it was initially handled because it just didn't work then. I agree completely with your assessment. River Song is meh but not nearly as grating as her series four self, Rory is LOVE (and does remind me a bit of good ol' Ian), and Karen still struggles from time to time, but she's much improved. Definitely a great script from Moffat, considering the kind of stuff he's hashed out in the past.

The introduction of River was TERRIBLE, and I say this as fan of Alex Kingston. It was just bad, bad, bad.

Yes, I thought specifically of you when I wrote the Karen comment, LOL!

If Moffat can manage to keep up this energy, this development through the rest of this series...Well I don't know that I will ever like the man, but I will be a happy happy viewer...and an absolutely giddy who fan.

Yup, he did a really good show hitting those emotional beats. I was quite impressed. :)

I just knew that Karen comment was for me! =) Granted if I pretend The Beast Below and Victory of the Daleks don't exist...my opinion is a much higher one.
