'Doctor Who' 6.01 - The Impossible Astronaut

I could complain about typical Moffat repeating himself, repeating aspects of past episodes, blah blah blah, and it's true. However, he actually got the emotional beats perfectly on target for me and so I'd be a hypocrite if I complained about plot stuff when Rusty sure had his issues in that area, while I praised him for his beautiful character work. For the first time, I truly saw some great character stuff in a Moffat episode. Good for him.

I'm really trying to let go of my "Silence of the Library/Forest of the Dead" hate, and just enjoy River Song, because I do like the character and Alex Kingston remains as awesome as ever. Her little speech to Rory about her worst day actually did ease my grr about SotL/FotD a wee bit because I remembered that moment that she described taking place in that episode and I did feel a twinge for her. (Which was, of course, immediately followed by my annoyance over the fact that Moffat couldn't just wait until he was helming it and instead had to throw the River stuff there RIGHT BEFORE ROSE CAME BACK!)

Nice little moments here and there, Matt Smith remains supremely awesome. I still don't think that Karen Gillian is a bad actress, and Arthur Darvill's Rory is adorable. I just hope that Moffat keeps up the strength of this episode into the second-part. In my opinion, this easily the best Moffat episode since "Blink."
