Bill was a shattered old man, just a shadow of the one who talked about Earth years ago.
They’d finally made it, but it held no meaning.
She was gone.
He let his moustache grow back, grey and unkempt.
His food ran out and he didn’t bother to look for more.
He sat and watched the daylight fading, the stars revealing themselves slowly. He could see Laura’s sparkling eyes and brilliant smile etched in the heavens calling him home.
He was ready.
He lay down beside the stones that held his love and waited for darkness or light to take him.
