"You actually had to work today"...

Jul 17, 2003 17:47

is what i told the bosses son at 5 minutes to 5pm today. It was funny, cause i really didnt have to do much at all today. It was almost like i was him for the day. I went in like any normal day and picked up where i left off the day before. i started the day by keeping the inserters stocked with prestamped carrier envelopes, BREs(Business Reply Envelopes) with "No Postage Neccesary If Mailed In The United States", letters of non-profit organizations either asking for or thanking someone for donations, and a reply/survey piece or an ID Card which portrays the address through the glassine window of the envelope. Anyways it wasnt 20 minutes into work my boss called me to the office. He wanted me to write up some jobs in the log book, fix up some samples and get signoffs or approvals so we could run the jobs. Of course i took my time fumbling through the jumbled paperwork trying to make sense of what didnt seem right. As i did things, me and my boss went over them in between his phone calls and the interruption by the staples salesman offering 10% off orders if they were placed on the spot. It turns off a few of the things werent right, and we couldnt get in touch with the client to straighten them out, so i moved on to the next job. Approaching lunch time, the bosses wife/secretary asks me what i'm doing for lunch. She ordered chinese for her husband and son and didnt want any herself. I told her Blimpies, so she if i could pick her up a sub while i was there. I agreed, and my boss told me to leave ten minutes early(which is what the bosses son does when he goes to pick them up lunch). So i run over to Amoco/Blimpies and come back to clock out and eat. yada yada yada lunch ends and its back to work. At this point i was almost done writing up the jobs that didnt have problems and was wondering what i would be doing that afternoon. i finished writing up the jobs that seemed to be a never ending mess of errors that i actually enjoyed going through. The time left in the work day was dwindling away like leaves from an oak tree in early autumn, i wasnt working hard at all, and there was no aggrevation from the malfunction or sound of machinery. So it was about 2pm my boss tells me he has a couple of files he needs me to presort and convert to inkjet, i get started on them and go to ask a question, and hes like "stop what youre doing i need you to run over to NCS and pick up such and such". That was pretty cool to get out for awhile, normally he woulda sent his son. So i go make my pick up and get back, and they tell me i gotta go right back to make a delivery. It woulda made more sense to make the delivery as i was picking up but they werent thinking. Anyways, this time i stopped by the store and got a cold soda and a pack of smokes to eat some time up. I returned and was there long enough to get one step done on my file conversions when im told i have to take the bosses wife to the ford dealership to pick up her car which was in being serviced, and following that i had to stop by the post office and mail some invoices and pick up 30,000 25 cent stamps. by the time all this was done it was 4:30. The whole time im wondering why is he getting me to do all this stuff his son would normally do. I guess he decided i was more reliable or something. anyways after that my boss left for a doctors appointment, and i spent the last 30 mins converting my databases to a label format and saving it as a text file, where all the addresses were sorted by zipcode. It was a great day and a nice change of pace.

Oh and i went to the at&t store today, my exact phone didnt come in so he gave me a choice of two. one a motorola the other a panasonic, i dont like flip phones so i chose the panasonic. both were actually more expensive than the one i was supposed to get. anyways i started this journal entry at like 5:30 or 6 or something, and its 10:30 now, i had to leave and drive an hour away to pick up my stepsister, it took up my whole evening. And why do i still have my shoes on? All i wanna do now is relax, talk on aim, and smoke a bowl...peace
