Let me be your muse tonight

Last week, a fellow Etsyian and Aquariann commissioned me to draw her muse for her birthday. She's incredibly sweet and she's given me a lot of freedom for the actual drawings (one ACEO and one 4x6), so I'm really excited. Naturally, I'm a bit nervous because I've never designed for someone directly. I'm a graphic artist at a newspaper so I design ads for people all the time, but there's always an ad rep to talk to the client instead of me. I would seriously cry Alice tears and flood the office for days if I had to put up with some of the people they do on a daily basis. Plus, drawing is a different creature entirely because I've never done it for money, it's just what I adore to do for myself...it's more personal. So I really hope this first commission goes well, because it does have me thinking in new ways for inspiration.

Many of the characters in my drawings are referenced from photographs of friends, family, and myself. Since this commission is something entirely new to me and I didn't want to use a pre-existing photograph, I had a mini-photo shoot and played model for possible poses to sketch. I felt rather silly because I am quite shy by nature and have never been a fan of being in front of a camera, but seeing as no one else will ever see these particular photographs, I will survive. I didn't even bother with make-up or smiling or even attempting to look pretty or not blink, it's mainly to help me with anatomy and shading. So yeah, there will be none shown for comparison, or you really will believe I can work magic with ink and colored pencils.
