Omg yes, the breastfeeding scene ... I had exactly the same reaction, I couldn't believe he said it, I couldn't believe I was seeing that in a film. Goddamned Blake Edwards. I was totally transfixed by the greenhouse scenes, swear to god he actually bounced off the camera at one point. Jesus, Jack! He is such a legend ( ... )

Yeah, I agree. I don't think he would have gone after her. I was just so afraid that this final loss of her would have driven him back to drink. Which is why I found it so ominous that he and his daughter lived right next to a damned bar with a damned flashing neon sign. *mutters imprecations against Blake Edwards*

I feel exactly the same way about her character. Have you seen Candy yet? The movie with Heath Ledger and Geoffrey Rush about heroin addiction and love? It's such an interesting parallel to Days. It's out on DVD here and I'm sure it would have gotten a fairly wide world release. I hope. Everyone should see that movie or read the book or both, they're so beautiful. I think you'd love the book a whole lot more, though.

*lol* Y'know, I think I might have been too young to realise just how queeny Maurice and Dr Bombay were but yeah, I did know about Dick Sargent. *sigh* I never did like him as much as Dick York.
